Wood is thick most of the time , it doesn't bent easily - witch you have with cardboard... glue makes cardboard curl . So wood is good for a gaming board

Also depends on what kind of wood you use. I personally recommend MDF.

As Anduril recommended, MDF is the best choice. It forms a nice base for your gaming board, and I use it on mine. Try something like 9mm for the board, and then smaller terrain elements can be placed on 3mm or so. :)
