Well I've decided to start making a gaming board for my men... I already have 1 which is just plain. It's going to be built on around 5cm thick board which i will carve out slopes, rivers & I can add hills etc... But I'm not sure what i should for grass wise. There's the possible grass sheets which is just paper with grass on it pretty much... Or should i use the powdered 'stuff' The grass sheets wouldn't be very good for hills etc, because there will be folds in it, but the powdered grass can go anywhere really.. I don't think using them both would be a good idea for you would see the difference... Any help on this would be very useful or even an example if anyone has. |

I would just use the static grass sheets all over, powdered and static would not go together very good. In my opinion static grass is much more realistic than powder. I would just use normal static grass in a bag for the areas not covered by the mat.

I have made 3 gaming boards the first one with grass sheets it looked not very realistic and it was horrible to place it. The second and 3 attempt were much better static grass was easy to aply and it is cheaper. EDIT: I can make a picture of the 3 board. |

Ok so i see using Static grass seems to be a favorite. I've only used the powder 'stuff' so far & haven't really seen static grass on a board before... I've seen boxes of the stuff but it didn't look that realistic in my view. Any pictures would be welcome for i wouldn't mind having a look at the end result, or even if stages if someone went to the trouble of it. |

Static grass works best if you mix several different shades of it to create several different shades of grass for the board. |

This is what I'm going to base it on. 3 boards (but i'm sure it'll expand some time  ) It actually insulation but perfect for making hills and boards. I'm going to cut in a river, add some hills & ruins around the place.. It's three boards placed together so i can easily do smaller or large battles.This is it so far, I'll update you when i've done more.

Heres an update of what I've done today... It's not much but it's coming together nicely. 
Any tips are always welcome. My next step is to build a bridge, and on the other side of the rivere where there are no hills I'm thinking about making some ruins/town. |

I don't believe that's true. People such as Dorthonion keep threads running - updating them with progress on such projects. And they should know the rules; having lived on this site for many, many long years... 
As long as it's just terrain (which it is) then it should be fine here. |

I'll just keep quiet in the future.....still only been here a couple months, don't quite understand all the rules. Since this is the Help with Terrain Modelling section, I thought it should become a WIP. 
Well, never mind about that, Drumtastic. Looking forward to seeing the board finished and flocked

Well i bought mine from the local 'DIY' shop... which was B&Q. It's actually insulation but great for making these types of things. I also found a website earlier if you still fail to find any. yeh i have seen the site before, and will defo be getting some of the thinner bord from there for buildings etc. i recently went to a B&Q warhouse store, and couldnt come accross any insulation bored, other than the white expanded polystryn. maybe its just me! lol Beaner |

Well it's true i have rarely seen the stuff... I've only found it a few weeks back & was over the moon making hills etc... lol. They don't normally stock that kind of insulation but since it's get colder and near to Christmas they'll stock some. I myself bought 15 sheets of the foam in case i didn't find anymore for a while.. lol |
