Hi,

I want to build Amon Sul, but there are some questions:

Which dimension should the inner circle of Amun Sul have? Are 20 cm diameter enough or is this to small?
Which material would be the best to build the walls?
And there are some statues - how could they be made? With Greenstuff or something else?

Bye

You could do a mould of the statue in one of the gw terrain packs.

Unfortunately I don't have even one of those statues.

Common practise is to use the statues as LordElrond suggests, they are perfect! I'd recommend getting some just to give it the right finish...

I always imagine it as roughly 12-15 inches wide...

Did anyone notice that where the hunter orcs meet Azog after Thorin's company get to Rivendell is inside Weathertop?

From the FotR Journeybook, GW defines the play area of Amun Sul like this:

"...played within the ruin of Amun Sul itself - a circle 12"/28cm in diameter. The boundary of the playing area should be crumbling walls that can be climbed by a man-sized figure (ie, between 1"/2m and 2"/4cm tall). The floor of Amun Sul is littered with ruined and broken stone - the entire play area counts as difficult ground."

The couple I've seen done up have typically had the large center flat area be 12" with the boarder zone (the raised platform) perhaps 2" wide. More officially though I think your total play area would need to be 12" so the center would be maybe 10" diameter and then the outer ring 2".

You should not really make a mould of a GW copyrighted piece. If you do definitely don't tell anyone! Let's not debate this here on this website though! You can buy the GW pieces of course and they are often seen on ebay and in store.
However you can purchase statues from thomarillion (I just ordered several) which will look good. Also Antenocitis workshop make Gothic Statues Ruined which also will look excellent.

Agree, Thomarillion scenery is brilliant, shipping costs are high as its from germany, but well worth it

I made a model of Weathertop a few years ago and the dimensions for it are in the article I wrote: kb.php?a=53
