Post subject:  Purpose built table for the Barrels out of Bond scenario

I decided after seeing the White Dwarf that I wanted to build a single purpose table for the Barrels out of Bond scenario. I have built single purpose tables for ACW Battle of Atlanta and several WWII battle fields. Storage is always the problem. The owner of TreeFort Games has agreed to store it. So I need to settle on a plain for the table rather than the gaming surface.

Image

I can build the game surface to fit the light duty table in the left or build a much stronger box table and keep the playing surface under the hard table top. Like my old gaming table. The hard top has advantages.

Image

Much more fun than the Glass dinning room table. But a metal tool box full of lead miniature is heaver than Jenny was when she was five. I have to decide if I will use one by six's or two by six's for the box. Or I could just make a table surface insert and store it the back when I am not present.
I am inclined to make the extra effort. The budget will not be an issue except that I would ratter spend it on the surface than the table itself.

Make suggestions, Please. I would like to see examples of tables you have built or seen.
Also should I add this to my WIP or start a new wip?

Sounds like another great project. Keep it in its own thread and it will make it easier to follow. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I'm planning a smaller scale diorama for the barrels.

I would love to have a go, but I just don't have the time or the storage. Good luck. I look forward to seeing the results!

How about a separate top that has a lip all the way around it so it can be lifted on and off and kept in place during play.
The top would be made of something strong enough to withstand the constant lifting on and off and storage. A stacking frame could provide the storage for multiple boards.
This idea could be replicated across your game boards and as the different scenarios dictate, you can have one table with interchangeable tops.

That is what John wants to do. He already has created a rack for table inserts for the table in the photo.

I am going to make a box that will fit as an insert. I will purchase materials and begin Friday.

This table is rather well thought out. If you would like to construct one. I would include the rack as part of the table.

The intent here was to allow the two table tops to be swapped back and forth. The plain could be easily modified to include a rack for more.

It has been very hard not to start working on the table before Friday.

I have been thinking ahead to lake town docks. They are going to have to be strong enough for hard use so I decided on wood. I am going to use bass wood craft sticks. I am going to use a hot knife to add raised wood grain.

Can you show the big fat figure with hooves in the background? I'm wondering what it is.

I initially miss-read this "Lake town docks" as lake town Ducks! And thought oh well, whatever floats your boat. However this is a good point and I suspect that there is not going to be any scenery for what will be critical location of the movie, which would be a shame. So the only option will be scratch building.

OtherWorld Miniatures D&D daemon and oop D&D fire elemental. I am thinking about recasting the hands in clear and adding a LED kit. I should try to talk Otherworld into doing it.

I tried the hot knife on MDF too! I should be able to use MDF for some of the parts that might not be strong enough. Like boat hulls.

I am sure this will find it's way into the pirate games.

The Thormarillion stuff looks great, could be a pricey project but they do look tailor made!

Not every one can scratch build. There were years I had more money than time. Thormarillion is a nice option.

If you'd change the demon head to an ox head it would make an awesome meditating minotaur!

What am I supposed to see? Also, I wasn't suggesting it, it was just an idea. :)

I thought you might not have realized it was the daemon from the old book. 8)

Yeah, you don't want to change it because it is so old and rare i guess.
