I think the whole problem here is how an individual defines the word 'beginner' !
The comments in this thread seem to be leaning towards 'how good a painter I am' and not 'how long have I been painting'.

As harsh as it sounds, if someone painted for 40 years and never improved on their painting skills, do we class them as a beginner ?

Anyway, I think its a very difficult subject to define at the moment and it will take a lot of discussion with the competition commitee to sort it out.
In the meantime, I would say 'you be the judge'. If you think your a 'beginner', then put yourself forward for the relevant catagory, however the Admin team still have the right to move or remove entries.

I agree with Brian

People enter the catagory they think in their own opinion is best. And if other people think otherwise then admin staff have full right , ( maybe with a vote ) to move the peice in question.

Oh, I can't wait! I've got an entry that I think could win! ...but then again, don't we all?!

I was gonna enter in the beginners catagory but, now that I know that we could win blister packs and boxed sets I dunno where I'm gonna enter :gollum:

I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works!!

I am new to painting minis, i did have some over 20 years ago but they were not as hobby pieces, just for RPGing, so theoratically i'm a beginner... however i'm a professional artist who has gone to bed with paint brushes for years and feel i should enter the other category, if i get one ready in time!

Am i eligible??

No spanner as far as I'm concerned .. as a pro artist there is a fair chance you would be automatically in the Open Category provided this form of art is one you are good at.

Have a look at the previous winners gallery for bother open and beginners and estimate your level. If you think you can paint a mini better than the winner of the beginners then enter the Open category to give the beginners a fair chance, otherwise we might move you anyway.

Anyone who is a member is eligible to enter.

Dark_Raven...obviously we the entries can not be viewed in person and only by an image, therefore I would stress to try and get the best possible image you can. Your votes will depend on what the members can actually see...Good Luck !

i put myslef into beginner as i know for a fact that i cant compete with the best of this site.

btw could we enter one into beginners and one into open both in the same catergory if ya know what i mean?

@Suladan, sorry, no. You can't be a 'beginner' and an 'experienced' painter at the same time, so you must choose which category you wish to enter.

Well it will be judged on the photo taken so if you have missing bits it may not look as good.
Its up to you to decide at which stage to photgraph your entry to give you the best chance. You could not post a work in progress then resubmit it at a later stage.

EDIT: Don't forget that you have until may 1st to get you entries in, so still 4 weeks to finish off.

Yet another question (to the moans of admin!)...

Can we post our entries in our personal galleries as well as enter them in the competition??

Yes you can post them to your personal gallery as well as the competition.

hey guys if i paint a model and when i take the pic of it , does the lighting matter. example a green cloak is painted on a rohan warrior, the color is snot green yet the photo shows a darker green, does this matter alot?

Author:  Nygyll of Wyvernhole [ Wed Apr 05, 2006 1:50 pm ]
Post subject:

Editing of an image to get it back to the figures colours is just about acceptable. Remeber you only get that photo for people to judge against. If you cloak looks a dark green in the photo people will assume it was meant to be that way.
Any obvious and excessive photo-shopping will result in the the image being removed.

Don't forget you have a month to enter. Therefore you still have more than 3 weeks to wait for a decent day to get some decent pictures.
