He knocked Moria back down I think.

Maybe it would be useful to ask if people back up their vote with some reasoning.

I voted for Moria a few posts back. Gobbos are the cheapest non-rare or non-allied infantry in the game. When combined with Khamul they are brutal. Moria also includes great monsters like stone giants, and heroes like druzhag. They may not be the MOST competitive list, but they certainly can compete.

Sorry guys I didn't see your post. But I voted for Gondor. Though I did think about decreasing Moria.

Ok, so we are currently on:

Gondor - 7
Rohan - 7
Elves - 6
Dwarves - 7
Mordor - 1st
Isenguard - 5
Moria - 6
Fallen realms - 6
Angmar - 4

So + Dwarves - but that's situational, as Morannon Orcs, for example, kick them around (that's why Mordor is 1st).

I picked Elves because of their wide selection of very strong heroes. Although there are some that aren't great (e.g. Arwen) there are others who are well worth their points cost and are very versatile (e.g. Thranduil). One of the few issues I have with them is outside of the rules: the plastic Wood Elves models are horribly detailed.

I'm going to treat Isengard on merely 5 as an anomaly brought about by no one here picking them either way, but Angmar on only four? I'd take them over 2/3 of those 'sevens'. :)

Xelee, I don't think this sort of a poll is at all scientific, so small wonder that sort of thing happens. What we need to do is simply put up a new thread where people rank the armies with a score of 1-5 in competitiveness each, if we want to have a better idea of how things are.

Imagine if you were doing ballots, and the guy whose name got drawn ten times first would be the president - this is kind of the same thing.

No, it was Angmar being voted *down* that was a bit odd... But thanks Fingon, you've restored my faith in the Universe!

I think Angmar can be a devastating army, if you know how to use your nazguls and you spirits well.
BTW your blog looks great!

I voted Angmar down because this is as a standalone army. As an army not using allies, they are difficult to play at even so much as an above average force. The units are too expensive or too small, generally speaking.

Well that's a different poll to the one in the OP then, which did nothing to rule out the armies people actually play. Without arbitrary restrictions being placed on them, Angmar do fine, since they have access to decent command options, good monster heroes and excellent common troops.

In fact, given that list, Allies are hardly essential either! Arguably their biggest gap is in missile troops, but they do have access to 20pt bow as a common choice.

Well, the original post seemed to imply that it was that army. I find it has the biggest pitfalls, but that's just me. Clearly you disagree and it got voted back up, but I still feel that it is the weakest army, even with allies.

We haven't had any new votes for a few days, and we're still a long way from finishing the poll, so I'm allowing everyone a second vote. Here's mine:

Gondor - 8
Rohan - 7
Elves - 6
Dwarves - 8
Mordor - 1st
Isenguard - 5
Moria - 6
Fallen realms - 6
Angmar - 5

I raised Gondor to 8 due to their powerful Heroes, good basic formations, and all-round reliability.

I'm dropping Angmar again to 4 because they have a severe lack in variety, their mainstay units are too expensive and disallow characters to be in them, they have too many formations that are a single company, Gulavhar is too expensive (compare him and his abilities with Burhdur and tell me he's worth more points) and the I think the Witch-King is the least useful Ringwraith (as well as too expensive for what he is) and the Tainted is situational. I'm not a huge fan of the Dwimmerlaik either (I think, lol. I just forgot what his rules were off the top of my head).

Ultimately, to me, it's the worst out of the options left.

Gondor - 8
Rohan - 7
Elves - 6
Dwarves - 8
Mordor - 1st
Isenguard - 5
Moria - 6
Fallen realms - 6
Angmar - 4
