So i was recently playing a game against a gondor player with gandalf who successfully transfixed a formation with an epic hero in it. He stated that the epic hero could not leave during my move because the formation is transfixed, is that right?

Also, he used blinding light on the formation and dueled the hero claiming it was now fight 0 for the duel. Is that true as well? That makes gandalf the gray way underpriced imo considering he slaughtered a hero and half my formation without breaking a sweat.....

Tbh, this game is rough to get the hang of.

Thanks.

The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Magic and its effects on epic heroes is explained on page 72, in a box.

Basically if a spell affects a formation, it affects every epic hero in that formation too, even if they join after the spell is cast.

I'm going to have to say that the answer to the first question is no. While a Transfixed formation may not move, shoot, or charge (which according to the box on pg. 72 also affects the hero) it doesn't say anywhere that the hero may not leave his formation. An Epic Hero moving from one formation to another is not considered normal movement (see pg. 68 under Moving Epic Heroes) so if he were not allowed to leave the Transfixed formation it would have to specify like it does for Epic Challenge. (pg. 69) Meaning he would simply leave the effects of Transfix behind on the formation he just left.

You mean the section called Moving Epic Heroes? The one that tells you how they move? Yes, they move differently to formations but it's still movement.

I don't see any reason to allow movement while under the effects of a spell that says "may not move?"

Transfix does not say that Epic Heroes are unaffected by this therefore they are as per page 72.

Ok if it's Movement why is it that he can still Move with the formation that he just joined, shoot as normal, and charge as normal? Say he's jumping to a formation with bows that's 10" away. Since he Moved 10" does that mean he won't get to shoot with the rest of the formation because of the bow Movement restrictions?
I think you need to read the description for Epic Challenge again because it differentiates between formation Movement and Epic Hero Movement by saying the "target's formation cannot Move that turn- Epic Heroes may not >>>leave<<< the formation." Bottom line is if a hero Moving between formations was the same as regular Movement they wouldn't have made a distinction. Since they did there needs to be something specific in Transfix that says the hero can't leave.

hmmm, both of you have really good points, im not entirely sure what to think.

But i guess the blinding light part is pretty clear and makes gandalf deadly to heros. Im using an Isengard list with mainly fighting uruk-ai, anybody got any tips for fighting gandalf the gay backed by minas Tirith warriors and calvary?

BTW, does anybody know how gandalf the white's voice of command works? Does it make him C7 and nearby formations courage 7 through inspiring leader? Seems like poor wording when they could have just said makes him courage 7.....

Sure the hero is transfixed along with the rest of the formation, why wouldn't he be? After all is it not heroes that can resist the magic attacks? They are not immune to magic.

Also Big T, there are a zillion things that seem super-powerful or undercosted, its just the way the game is, there are alway's counters though.
