Can a formation be driven back by Epic Shot like it can be by normal shooting attacks?

Thanks,

Don't see why not.

The games I play we always did so with epic shot

But we didn't allow magic (bolt of fire, natures wrath) to drive formations back. I guess it would be the same thing.. losing a company on a burst of magic or a rain of arrows. It drives you back D3

Any other opinions on this?

Logically speaking, the driving back is caused by the soldiers fearing the guy(s) who caused so many casualties, so I suppose anything causing that many casualties should work. One guy shooting four-five men with a single arrow would sure scare me, as would someone throwing big fireballs around...

Epic Shot would be a shoot action, in the shoot phase, and therefore if it killed enough to deplete a company, the formation would be driven back.

As for magic, I think it would be thematic (as well as handy!) to have Bolt of Fire act like a shoot and be able to drive a formation back. But we never play it this way, the rules specifically state only shooting attacks drive back. (and again Epic Shot is a shooting attack)

Is it a shooting attack? I think (not sure) Epic actions are not attacks, even if they directly kill people. Sort of like how casualties from a Duel don't count for who won the fight.

Why shouldn't they? We always play it like this.. some times really makes a difference in who wins a fight! 8)

Is this specificly stated in the rules somewhere?
