It's Lord Timothy actually, btw it aint a swear word, Dr Evil uses it in Austin Powers

Back on topic, when I saw it first time I thought perhaps he will be holding a banner but the more I look at him, he looks like the Old Lollipop man down the street, same facial expression and everything :D

I think it'll either be a Bow or a Two handed weapon. Maybe even a spear a-la-Mordor orc style

looks very good, it'll be nice to see this completed.

Looks like he might be holding a big hoola-hoop over his head.

Genius!

He's the leader of the undead's rhythmic gymnastics team, practising his hoola hoop routine.

Err...
Jack, you got it right the first time. :D

He's now holding a pole, to which I'll attach a banner. Trouble is, I just can't get his hand right! It is either too high or too low, too large or too small!

This is the current version, but I'm going to have to change it. It looks stupid.

Still, it gives an idea of how high the banner will be and its rough position. I may have to change how it is attached to the arm in order to get it to look right. Tips welcome.

Day of frustration! I also managed to break the end of the scabbard off without realising and had to spend a while on my hands and knees scouring my house for it as I didn't fancy having to take off the whole thing and remake it from scratch. Eventually found it and glued it back perfectly. I'll have to fill the undercut a bit anyway, and that should strengthen it so it won't snap again.

next time you can save yourself the trouble of guessing how long the arm should be and where the hand should go by using even a rough wire armature for the arm. It can be really difficult to estimate proportions when you're in the middle of the model as you've no doubt found out. get a wire of the appropriate size for the arm, and leave a little extra length for the hand. then just superglue the banner pole on the end of it and sculpt the hand and arm on.

:D Thanks M! I'll try that next time. For now, I think I'll take off the pole and rework the arm from the elbow, possibly using a new, smaller piece of wire. Hopefully I'll be able to make it look more natural that way.

Yes! He is Gene Kelly! Well spotted John, look at that big grin, who else could it be.

I really like how he is turning out, his pose reminds me of the Halbarad mini, which was great fun to paint, so I can only imagine the fun you will have finishing this model.

I'm confident you'll 'figure' out a way to solve this little dilemma

:D I cut off the hand, then clipped some of the arm off and glued the hand in position. It's looking much better now. I still need to do a little sculpting on the hand and then sculpt armour and cloth on the arm before commencing the flag.

:D I'm loving this! Sculpting is great fun. :D I find it even more involving than painting and time seems to fly as I'm absorbed in a project.

I sliced his fingers off today and re-sculpted them at an appropriate angle, carefully looking at my own hand to see how they should go.

Then I sculpted a piece of armour on the forearm.

With a bit of putty left over, I decided to begin filling undercuts as neatly as possible to make casting easier should I decide to get a mould made.

I'll need to work a bit more on his sword next and get that attached... another tricky bit of 'handiwork'.

:D Genius! I knew there was a ploy behind your posts. I'll have an army of them

His hand does look better in that position. I'm eager to see how you sculpt his flag. Will you do one side at a time?

:D Ploy? Ploy?

Here's the new hand and armour. I think I've got the angle right, now.

Apologies: images removed.

is it the king of the dead? Because right now he looks like how I imagined him to look like in the Book.
He was Grey, had a spear...And the armor looks great  .
Stunning work

I don't know yet! I've made paper flags before but not putty ones. I guess I'll do it a bit like the cloak - make a thin flag that makes a good shape, let it harden and then add more detail to each side.

If that doesn't work, I'll just cut it off and try something different.

Glad you like it, anyway.

I wish all the army of the dead miniatures had been sculpted to this level of detail. It's great to see historical accuracy in a model, like the chainmail suit with the leather breaches and the decorated scabbard, it makes the eyes water, I salute you sir! :D

The banner bearer should have special rules. Perhaps he increases terror, so that enemy troops within 10" lose a point of courage.

Along with the 3" re-roll rule, how groovy!

Quote:
would they be real arrows?

They would inflict damage being ghostly and all, but the wood would probably have rotten away centuries ago.

Quote:
How did the army of the dead kill people?

With their swords  I think in the book they were immortal, but they could probably wound living things. The GW profile lists them as having handweapons.

What would be cool is if you sculpted bows and quivers onto their back. They would have required them when they were a 'living' army but now that they are a 'dead' army, I think the use of archery would be disregarded. Remember they are no more than a horde of undead men, not really a well trained contingent. Having not received disciplined training for centuries, close combat would seem the quickest and most effective way of getting the 'job' done.

Keep on sculpting :)
