A small update. I did the window frame this morning and was very pleased with the results.

Time to move on to the next panel. :twisted:

Another little masterpiece. This is like seeing into a Swiss watchmaker's workshop... lots of small intricate parts brought together to make something magical.

Started working on the front entrance. Trying as much as possible to use different techniques than Alan uses in a bid to show different ways of doing things.

Anyway, heres what I have done so far. The bricks were made from 2 seperate identical cardboard rings. One was painted off white, whist the other was painted lightly with Scorched Brown then cut into small brick sized pieces. Each brick was added one at a time.

Still a lot of work to do on this piece. I want to getting the window frames done next before moving onto the windows themselves, then the 2 final roof supports and lastly painting it all up properly.

Looking good big guy! That's definitely the way to do the brick surrounds for doors - it is so neat and perfectly spaced. I will steal that idea for my next hobbit doorway.

If I would make pictures of my ‘miniatures’ at this close range, all one would see is a black sprayed dot of structure paint onto some slab of MDF. You both have mastered the art of working at a ridiculous small scale perfectly! Tell it to the marines, lads: these are no ‘average’ modelling skills! :no:

A picture of one of these Hobbit windows in a Cotswold real estate catalogue would have sold the house on the instant… This is no tug-of-war between rivals. This is a double tour de force.

Brian and I keep regularly pumping out pictures between us, and it's been great to see each other's work - the fires of inspiration are really buring hot for me as a result of this little 'competition.'

But I have to say "thank you" to all of you too for your support and encouragement. Some of the comments here have been very nice to read and they have helped to drive me to greater levels of detail than I would normally have attempted.

First of all before I post an update, I would like 'echo' Alans remarks.
I was just saying the same thing 3 nights ago to MacGothmog in chat, that the comments and encouragement we (okay Alan, I know he's kicking ass), receive here, drive away the 'I cant be bothered' virus and spur us on to keep doing more.

I mean no disrespect to anyone that has posted here, but the one post that stood out for me was from 'LOTRSceneryBuilder'.
As I am sure you are all aware, this guy makes 'awesome' scenery !
and his comments were a pleasure to read.

It doesn't all have to be nice though, feel free to post a lot of critisism, but please keep it to Alans work and Alans work alone

I'd actually hoped to be a lot further on than what I am before this update, but I am back to work now, which equals Hell !!!

That was cut from a single piece of Balsa Wood in the basic shape you see. I then use a Dremel Grinding Attachment to shape it further
Its nowhere near perfect, but once the grass comes over the top, I'm hoping it will be.

Added the side bricking, another joist, tidied up the Wood Panel above the door, re-painted the woodwork to how I want it (apart from the new joist) and started on some weathering of the walls within the centre piece.

Indeed, you're both doing marvelous jobs!

Brian, don't feel the need for it to be "perfect." I'm sure the Hobbits weren't brilliant craftsmen by Dwarven or Elvish standards. Their houses were built for functionality, but they also liked them to be pretty. I'm sure they didn't care about a couple inches difference here or there (especially if it was time for breakfast, second breakfast, tea or elevensies! :wink:
