The One Ring was "such a small thing" and that was still Pure Evil.

I agree completely. If you're lucky your local game group won't use them just for those reasons. But in reality there will be many people playing them, especially the SL and Marshal I think.

Wooo. So that's only £75 for the last 5 named ringwraiths. Good job they dropped the VAt, I'll save about 25p...

What is most strange is that Tolkien wrote about so much (GW are the first to admit it) but GW seems to keep on designing new stuff that isn't half as imaginative. Consider the Ringwraiths' names: Dwimmerlaik just means wraith or something like that and could apply to all of them; All the Numenoran Ringwraiths were treacherous, so the name Betrayer doesn't seem much good and the kinght of Umbar doesn't really make sense if the wraiths are meant to be lords and kings of men as knight is a translation of Numenorean "Roquen" and refers to a specific social rank equivalent to mediaeval knights or Roman equites.

Sorry. Rant over. But GW could be spending its time making models for Wainrider Easterlings or more elves or things that Tolkien writes about rather making up boring names for Ringwraiths.

In much the same way that Strigoi means Vampire (from Romanian) which can apply to all the Vampire Counts, sometimes you just have to apply creative license.

Perhaps this dwimmerlaik is the dwimmerlaikiest dwimmerlaik of all dwimmerlaiks, which is why -he- got the title.

I agree. While I like most of the new models, I would only use them in Second Age scenarios, as I think they have too much of that feel for a Third Age game. Even when they 'come forth in war' in the Third Age, they're not going to be as overt as when the Dark Lord bore the One Ring.
And, anyway, half of the 'coolness' of the Nine is their nameless-ness. It's the whole 'horror of they're people, but they're not people' thing...

And the new 3 names stink.

I said almost the same thing earlier in this thread. The named versions could be good for non-TA games. I want to finish collecting the Nine in their nameless form foot and mounted and get a couple on FB before I bother collecting any of the new named ones ( I do have Khamul but, again, he was already named and special in the core stories ).

Also They look very fantasy well the Dark Marshal is one of the cooles mini I have ever seen in the range BUT still all taht armor and cloths just don't fit it... On the other hand they bring more variaety to the game but in that case GW is making the wrong place to do that there are other factions and armies far more left unnoticed than these Nazgyl and as said above these three last names are ridicilouse thought dwim... dwimmer...err dwimmerlake...cake..sake or what so ever sounds cool

dwimmerlaik, dimmer-lake, dimmer cake, dumbcake, dimbulb.....
Somehow, it just doesn't seem to fit with a serious Black Rider threat...
Why not call one The Black Rider, and another the Scary Horseman Dude?! Or maybe Darth Hood?

:P

At least it's better than War, Famine, Pestilence, Death...

or

Sleepy, Doc, Happy, Bashful, Grumpy, Dopey...

i have a terrible creeping feeling that GW will continue to mess with original Tolkien material until the very end :(

and yeah i agree.. WHY did they have to make the dark marshall so damn COOL!?
makes it much harder to complain about the new nazgul...

i would love to have a well-informed rant about Tolkien's awesomeness being corrupted.. but hot damn GW did such a great job with the LOTR game that i can't throw in the towel and say NO WAY MAN! NO MORE LOTR MINIS FOR ME!

..they've got me good, they have

oh and for the record.. i think they new names are horrid.. they should go with darth hood :-D

Well all this talk is nice ofc. but if they didn't do anything any more like "NO we have no ideas for LOTR we will produce them for a few years or so but no new minis and rules"

It's good that they do something it's still better than nothing
but sometimes nothing is also better than always

Depends but I'm happy that they keep the game going...

the biggest thing that's bothering me is the Mahud like 2xstre 4 warriors?
I know it's harsh world out there but not that they could match like a Uruk Besererker...

and still I'm happpy that they keep the game going

That's a very good point. And I love some of the new models, too.

But couldn't the new rules thing focus more on the multitude of stuff that Tolkein came up with rather than re-inventing (poorly) what GW has already covered?

yeah, I agree.

But perhaps GWs legal stuff (technical term!) doesn't cover doing more stuff from Tolkien (like all the events earlier in the third age). I really don't know.

the betrayer: probably something like he can take other people's wound in exchange for his own - that kind of thing
knight of umbar: could be anything - maybe some special influence over corsairs
dwimmerlaik: could be something to do with the rohirrim, as his name is rohirric - perhaps he has a tainted affect on them as they recognise his history.
i really hope that i am far from the truth.
