Looks nice, Josh. I would however recommend to add a few highlights with Rotting Flesh or something, as it would look more weathered then.

Yes, looking at it now, I too believe the wood needs an extra drybrush of Rotting Flesh. I'll also give the metal areas an extra drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

Sweden is such a dull country sometimes... There's like one quite good hobby store in the entire country - in Stockholm of course. Things such as "Pawn shops" or "Second hand stores" are raa... wait, the salvation army! They might perhaps have somethingly chain-like.. Leaf, the whole structure is looking pretty good. That 'scafolding' looks really good with that lick of paint. Maybe its lacking a bit of weathering in there, but I bet you are leaving that for later.

So, to the thingy - It looks fabulous, I love the paintwork on it, but I'd very much like to see a model next to it to get an idea of size.

The second ladder though, doesn't leave much space for anyone to get infront of to begin climbing, perhaps tilt it just alittle more upwards and move it in, or put a small platform infront of it so it would be easier to access?

I'd go for tilting it abit though, since I wouldn't dare try to add a board infront of it, as the entire piece looks just about perfect as it is.

Josh, when you told me a while back you were going to build some Khazad-dûm terrain, my thoughts were: “alright, let’s see what’s gonna happen…” But man, this is serious stuff! It is my guess that a mini reaches up to about halfway the height of the first ladder (?). That would make it a delicate miniature. I love the metal work and the traces of red paint on the wood.



Now I think this contraption has been standing in the mines for ages; Moria Goblins might have used a plank or two for a bonfire… another plank has broken but it’s still in place – more or less. Bits of the wood have been chopped off, first during mining, afterwards by passing Goblins. Maybe you can add a bit of “dust”, some Goblin-graffiti, wear and tear, a broken pickaxe… But don’t overdo, because IMO it’s already perfect!

Thanks very much for the reply, Adrian. Great guess on the scale, that's just about right. Thanks for the modeling sugestions, I'll certainly keep those in mind. I am a little heistant to weather it too much though, as that's exactly how I destroyed the first version.

I should be able to begin doing more work on the board itself in a week, untill then I'll keep busy by further perfecting the mine workings, and also possibly starting work on more.

Just please refrain from hi-jacking my thread in the future. It makes it hard for me, when I have to search through looking for helpful comments. It also makes it hard for RWs, MacGothmog was kind enough to remove all off-topic disscusion from my thread; but he had to temporarily lock it to do so.

Now, let us put this in the past, and move onto discussing the mine working again. I will certainly try to post a picture with a mini on it, Adrian's guess as to the scale was correct, which should give you some idea of the scale. It seems that I'm out of balsa wood, so I won't begin work on any more mine workings for a little while. Once again, I should be able to begin work on the board itself sometime next week, I have to order my Spectre Hobbies Basing kit for a few of the materials I need.

I have to say, working with little strips of balsa wood for so long can get very annoying, I'm looking forward to working with Hirst Arts Blocks when I make Fornost... Woops, you guys weren't supposed to know about that project yet.
