The 9 are abroad

What's the advantage of playing the 9 are abroad over fielding say 6 Wraiths separately? And spreading there abilities separately over different formations? I keep being told to play the 9 are abroad but I can't see the benefits! Am I missing something? Thanx

The benefits are that you then have all of their rules in one place, really... It's also the cost of 4 Ringwraiths, as opposed to paying for all 9 AND the Witch-King's upgrade.

so its purely value then? i don't see any other benefit tho? why have all that power in one basket so to speak?

Because it looks cool. Nazgul seperately is nearly always better. Just another imbalanced thing from gw.

The 9 are just a very expensive support unit. I would always rather have 4 Epic Ringwraiths for the same price because that allows for 4 of the same spells to be cast at once instead of 1 level 10 spellcaster who will fail focus on the 2nd spell. Also, a lot of the special rules work much better in benefitting other formations.

This is the same with may Legendaries. The White Council looks cool and has good "value" but I think any two of the 200 point heroes would be more effective as Epics than all 4 are combined in this Formation. Likewise with the Three Hunters, Fellowship, etc. For fun games they are great to play and a good value but competitively not so much.

Actually in the case of 3 hunters they are really worth taking as an anti-monster formation along with Desperate Heroics fortune, because they have 8 Might, so with bowfire they easily take out a troll or something like that and once they run out of Might then you sacrifice a captain or some other cheap hero and get their 8 Might back to them with Desperate Heroics (they count as 'a' hero in the end).
