So I'm thinking of building a largish probably about 1000 points Harad army and was looking for advice. It will be very themed but hopefully still competitive. Anyway I was wondering whether you guys could give me some advice or possibly a draft of what a good force this size should include

Models I Would Like In My Army

Suladan
Harad Chiefs
Haradirim Raiders
Serpent Raiders
Harad Spearmen
Harad Bowmen
Watchers Of Karna

Possibly A Mumakil and/or A Ringwraith

Possible Allies

Easterlings
Black Numerons (Probably in the form of Morgul Knights)
Mahud

Any advice at all would be appreciated

Thanks

Ok so at 1000pts you can have up to 75 models, which should not be a problem, most harad armies can reach that at 700pts. At 1000 points you need to include a ringwraith, choose whichever one you want, if your a beginner then the undying is a good choice as he is very difficult to kill. As for your harad hero the gold king is probably your best option, closely followed by a Hasharin/Suladan. Anyway here is my suggestion:

Gold king
Mumakil with mahud chieftan
69 wariors of harad
named ringwraith on fell beast

this equals about 999 points, it only has 7 might (you generally want 1 might per 100points) 73 models,23 bows and it contains the killer sap will+golden king combo (use the wraith to sap the enemy leaders will and drain their courage, then once the enemy force is broken use the golden king to make him fail his courage and flee)

Haradrim Raiders are cheap and effective. Abrakhan Guard are very good. I would recommemd you use some of both.

Also Abrakham guard special rule will help you infict many casualities. :-D

No half trolls have that dumb "warrior pride" rule which means they instantly pass a courage test if a mahud chieftan/king is in a fight within 12" of them and do not benefit from stand fasts :(

I was thinking of something like this but I want a more varied force rather then just spamming Harad troops. I was thinking of something like

Golden King
2x Harad Cheif on Horse
5-10 Harad Raiders
5-10 Serpent Raiders
6x Watchers Of Karna
6x Abrakan Guard
A ton of harad troops

Allied with 5-10 Morgul Knights and there leader

Using these models given how would I make a competitive force? Add a The Shadow Lord and stand back? Add some Hasharian and use them with the Watchers to annilare anything? Get more Morgul Knights and a Ringwraith?

Thanks

As cool as they are hasharins don't tend to do well competitively, they draw in fights against a standard wood elf :( I wouldn't say you need 2 harad chieftans on horse, 1will be enough. Maybe ally in shelob, she is the same points as a hasharin and is much better at assassinating enemy heroes than a hasharin. As for the shadlow lord, he is great but when it comes to the ringwraiths i'd say its more about preference than anything else, afterall they can all cast the same spells and provide the same courage penalty to the enemy/have an excellent stand fast for your army. If you are going to max out on troops then shadow lord probably isn't necessary, not all of your models will be able to get into the initial fighting (because there are too many of your models) so it does not matter if you lose a few of them on the way to the fight. I personally like the Undying the most, i love having 20 fate. Dark marshall can essentially give your troops another attack so he is very useful for getting an advantage in combat. If you are going to choose shelob as your assassin then the tainted on horseback could work well as a double team with her, his -1 penalty to enemy courage means shelob will not be surrounded as easily, and should someone try to run away the tainteds rule stops them from bringing anyone with them.

Im not sure on the points values of all the troops you listed but for heroes i suggest this selection:

Golden king
Harad taskmaster
harad chieftan on horseback with lance
shelob
the tainted

harad chieftains doont get lances they get warspears and why shelob. if yoou want the tainted keep him near your high courage troops, otherwise combine your choices with some of what suicidalmarsbar said.

Shelob has a higher F/SD/W than a hasharin, is faster, has more attacks if it wins a fight while on the charge, and is better suited to assassinating heroes (especially wizards due to a high will rating)

when charging she still only has 2 attacks, and although i wouldn't suggest using a hasharin either, he has 3 (4 with support) *equal to her knockdown), though her fight score i must admit is useful, if you take her get a hornblower.

There is no need for a hornblower just for shelob, she has 6 will and courage 4, those two are more than enough to survive some courage tests. Shelob gets 4 attacks on the knockdown and re-rolls, she also wounds the majority of good heroes on a 4+, the hasharin does not. She also causes terror so cant be easily surrounded. She is a better model but people who are more familiar with hasharins can use them just as well as shelob.

Shelob really is a killing machine... But she went to Harad? I have to create a small story...
So after Sam defeated her she went south[End of the story}

As if shelob could re-locate to a sunny desert getaway after Sam's tremendous victory.

Stop, your wording is n00b-confusing. She doesn't get 4 attacks. She gets 2 attacks, and each attack gets 2 dice to wound. Very different, because the most she can kill is 2 models. Ignoring the reroll for a bit, if she's facing two warriors with 1 wound each, if she rolls one attack and gets a 6 and 5, and the other attack gets a 3 and 3, she only kills one model.
