Yes, I'm still alive.
A bit late, but thanks for the comments and I think that I'll use your idea of adding yellow. 8)

It's been several months since the last update and I haven't done a lot in that time because of school, illness and one death after another in the familly.

But recently I picked up the hobby and i've started painting. :D

First up is Malbeth, I know it's not wip but I would like some comments on how to improve for the future.
Image Image

He'll be part of a small diorama I just started.
The sand looks more like ice at the moment because I got 15 liters of fine grain sand for my birthday, but it's a bit to fine.
Soon I'll dry some sand from outside.
Image

And this guard I painted this weekend, he also needs some good sand on his base and perhaps a few touch ups
Image Image

And I've worked a bit more on the ship.
Image

Image

It will become a mix of a viking longboat and this ship:
Image

Right now it's a test week and I've got the leftovers of a flue but once I'm a bit less busy updates will follow on a more regular base.
(Isn't that hard if you haven't updated in 5 months  )

Comments and criticism are most welcome :)

whoo! He's back! Great to have you back and I'm sorry about your loss. Your diamorma looks good so far, I look forward to see some progress on it. Maybe some more highlights on the cape near the front. Your viking longboat looks fantastic so far, which army is it for? I would probably say Rohan because they were based partly on Vikings.

Look forward to some more of your work

Great to have u back. Great start on the boat. It looks really nice :) looking forward for that one. Funny, i tought of making a diaroma thingie myself :) But i better should finish of the ongoing projects first... ( some painting and small things on the fort in special). I also don't have the materials to do the base of it.
Keep it up!

thanks for the comments

The boat will be a river vessel of Dol Amroth with a large mast in the middle and a small mast with a 45degree angle at the prow.
And now that you said it, the cloak certainly needs a few more highlights.

@ garmenhord: You probably can get everything you need from the garden and the garbage bin. (sand, tree roots, broken picture frame, 2 pieces of wood)
The only odd thing is a "gatenboor" (something between a drill and a saw) to drill the holes for the bases, I borrowed it from my parents.
They arn't very expensive, if you do a quick google search you'll find a set for underneath 2 euros.

The last couple of days the last bit of the flue in combination with the test week and my CFS/ME I litterly crashed down yesterday.
The doctor said I should rest as much as possible and only do some hobby stuff/ light reading, etc for the next few days.
So, Right now I sleep a lot and am working on the Osgiliath board.(your prairs have been heard drum  ).

I'll post an update somewhere this weekend.

Hm, a store keeper told me that "gatenboor" would cost me about 20 euro's.. Did u forgot a zero or are u talking about a second handed one? :) I hope i ll find one.. it would be very handy... Otherwise i felt like searching for a good clay that doesn't crumble to much and is easy to cut. But first i need to get a good deal on some new (second handed) figs. :-D
Ty :)

A good one will cost way more than that. A cheep crappy one should be about $3 We call them hole saws. Contractors use them to install pipes and light fixtures in dry wall.

Image

What you need is a spade bit. It will be the most cost effective. The cheep gatenboor is on the right. The expensive one ( plug cutter) is on the left. The one at the top is to cut holes with flat bottoms. The drill in the center is for metal. The bit with the screw thread is better but cost more. Spade bits are used most often in construction to run wires through studs because they cut fast. They make a mess. To cut a clean hole use a slower speed. There is also a photo of a circle cutter. It is adjustable.
There are all kinds of ways to cut circles and plugs and drill holes.
I hope this helps :)

Yes, the spade bit is a very good alternative.
The hole saw I have is very simmilar to this one.
It gives a very clean cut. (you can find a few cheaper ones but I don't know the quality of those)
And it has a 26mm diameter saw (infantry bases are 25mm, so it fits perfectly)
But you'll certainly don't need to pay 20 euros for one.

The plaster on the walls will have dried by now so I'll go back working on the board.

Here's the promissed update.

I've worked a bit more on the board, builded a new hot wire cutter and have started to tidy up my workshop ( :o ).

Image Image
The first layer of grey has been painted, then it will get another light layer and a drybrush.
The left section of the wall will get the same woodwork as the right.

Image Image

And here's a bit of work on a few buildings.
Image Image
Everything is still a bit messy as I took those pics in a hurry and it's not finished.

And here's my new hot wire table.
Image Image
I still need to adjust the wire as it in a 90 degree angle.

I can't wait to see this finished up. :) It looks like an awesome gaming board. Maybe u must leave room to put a plate over the river. That way u can play games witouth a river to. (Just trying to expand the gaming possibility's ) :)

Great work so far. The gaming board is coming along nicely. Are you going to add ruined buildings as well?
Hot wire cutter looks good as well.

Thanks for the comments.

@Cyndra: there will be ruins on this board.
The left side of the board will be civilian and either fully build or in repair (I'm thinking about a house that's only a wooden framework.).
The right side will be military with walls and a gate (there will be 2 gates, one demolished and a "working one") on that side the trebuchets will be between the ruins. (and perhaps a repaired tower).

@Garmenhord: That's an interesting idea, perhaps I'l do that, but first I'll finish the board.

I haven't got a lot done since yesterday, adjusted the wire, got a new power socket in my workshop, done a bit of work on the board and tidied up a bit more.

You have done a very good job with the hot wire cutter. You might want to install a spring on the hot wire because it will stretch when it heats up. Take care with the ventilation. I poisoned my self years ago cutting foam. I have not had a problem sense I discovered poor ventilation of the fumes could be dangerous. Of course new laws have made foam products much safer. But care should be taken. Some people have allergies to ordinary things.
The table looks good. I hope you feel better soon.

I's been a while, but I'm still alive.
School and ilness has kept me from doing much hobby related, but there'll be an update today with a few things.
Next week I have a test week, which are always a bit calmer than an usual week, so i'll have more time and energy to work on the board.
And some time ago I cleaned up the shed :o , so now I can work properly down there.

Wednesday was my birthday and I got some hirst arts molds, which will most certainly help with the tharbad board.
(and I have the idea to build the Notre dame)

For the update I also have a small suprise for you.

Nice to see you around again Aqan. I'm afraid I haven't had much time either but at least our holidays are coming up now. Some moulds for your birthday sounds like the ideal present for a model maker. I for one would be very happy with that. As chestnut says, which moulds? They really are fantastic.
