Kicking around a few ideas for a good army, and I was pondering the following list:

Valandil - King of Men, Armor, Shield (Minas Tirith list)
Erestor - leads the Elven Escort from Rivendell
Torquil - Captain of Arnor, Shield - leads the Arnor escort force

23 Warriors of Arnor
1 Warrior of Arnor, Banner
10 Rangers of Arnor, 3 w/spear

10 High Elf warriors, Heavy Armor, Shield

46 models, 600 points


The basic premise is a hypothetical escort of Elven Guard, lead by Erestor, guiding Valandil back to Arnor, meeting up with a small contingent of Warriors of Arnor who will also provide escort.

Nice theme! I would swap three shield/spear elves for bows, use the extra points to give more rangers spears. Also, 600 points is a difficult spot for Good because Evil can so easily bring overwhelming numbers to bear. The "fair" spots seem to be 500, then 700 and up.

The only issue I see theme-wise is that Arnor was still basically Last Alliance quality without the courage issues Arnor faced halfway through the 3rd age. GW really messed up the Numenorian profile, so except for courage the Arnor profile is a better bet.

I like it, but maybe swap erestor for a stormcaller, it would do more for your army. But if you are set on Erestor he's stilla great choice

really nice army! love the theme.
I would drop the banner though, get some more numbers.
also, as you have a hero from minas-tirith anyway, you could get some komt and give Valandil a horse. always good for seize the prize.

Thanks folks - this is an army I'm considering for a tournament at 600- points, so I've go not wiggle room there. I've only played a "good" army a few times, but never in a competetive game. plus, with about a month to go...and zero models painted for this army, it might be tough. The feedback is greatly appreciated

If your bringing this to a tourney then drop the king of men for another elf hero like a stormcaller or a captain, i highly doubt you will get as much from the king as you will antoher elf. Maybe you could drop the king to upgrade the captain of arnor into malbeth?

I really like your theme.
The only thing I would suggest is to drop the banner in order to take some elf bowmen or if you insist in having one you should take it from the Minas Tirith list.
This way you should have six more points to play with…

That would involve a 1500 year time warp and pretty much destroy the theme.

Those are excellent rules! What country is this tourney in, I may have to re-locate!
