wow, so a troll sounds a nice idea, any tips on how to use one effectively, to get the best out of one?

Keep him away from magic users, uber heroes and large groups of archers. Keep him to one side of your main block of troops, then when they get into combat, have him swing into the side of your enemies troops. His defence of 8 should keep him alive for a while, but make sure that he has some support near him.

Keep him near a hero with a good stand fast, the only major heroes you should be scared of are the wizards, everything else with F6 or lower should be outdone by a troll, provided you have proper support.

about supporting a troll.

that really doesnt sound easy, for a start you cannot spear support them for extra attacks

also, couldn't your opponent just keep sending in little moddles to sacrifice to the troll. since a troll cannot use a heroic move to slam into an enemy lot of warriors before 1 brave man jumps in.
or is there a way around this problem.

By supporting, just don't let him get more than a few inches away from your other units.

ok then.
also, does anyone bother with the troll throwing stones rule, i cannot seem to find it of any use. all it seems to do is waste a turn where you should be able to charge forward towards the enemy

One time my friend was a jerk and made a fort that the Isengard Troll couldn't fit into, so I had him stand outside and chuck stones at his dwarves. It is kinda hard to hit with it, but if it does, it has a really good chance of wounding. I killed 6 dwarves with it.
