Not really the pose doesn't suit 2 handed weapons, you will probably better off looking for historicals such as these: http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=PIS%2D03

If you enjoy converting figures and have plenty of plastic WoMT, Orcs with two handed weapons and Gondorian warriors it can be done. You will also need a little green stuff for filling in gaps and sculpting folds in cloaks etc.

I've used the Orc bodies and 2HW along with heads from the Gondorians to make half a dozen Axemen of Lossarnach to go with a Dol Amroth Battle Company several years ago. There was also an article one of the issues of WD that had an article on how to do it. They used a dwarven axe and brass rod for the axe and the base figure, I think, was either a trebuchet or ballista engineer.

They were my first attempt at converting figures and I was relatively pleased with the outcome. If you are interested I could try and upload a few pictures or email some to you.

Not quite sure where the scottish inspiration came from, is that a GW concept ?

Personally I feel the old glory suggestion above doesn't fit with the dark ages type look.

I think good alternatives are wargames factory Hammer of the Gods range. I have a few boxes and the figs are a good size match (to what is another question  compare early elves to say plastic rangers.......).

Or even the germans and celts have v useful bodys/bits. Check...

All sets have lots of head and weapon options.
On a similar note they also do individual sprues (horses etc)

It can be done with the archers, but the rest really aren't a possibility. Some I did:

If you don't care about GW letting you field them in trournaments, using something from a different line is definitely the way to go.
