waa waa waa.
Get over it!! I've been in the hobby since 1996 and I have seen prices rise a lot. I don't like it but my food price go up by more than triple on some items and my fuel has gone up 40% in the last 5 years, my car insuranec is rising.
In the real world STUFF GETS MORE EXPENSIVE!!!

The quality fall with finecast is a short-term pain. In a year's time we will all look back and go "glad we got that over n done with, now to enjoy good resin models" but metal IS NOT COMING BACK for a very long time.
Over all I have seen nearly as many glitches with resin as I did with metal. I've had 3 snapped pikemen for dol amroth in separate blisters, ive had short molded metal morgul knights, ive had other I can mention.
landspeeders in plastic were a nightmare FOR YEARS!!! but we got out our elastic bands, plastercard and green stuff and fixed it.

This is your hobby. Make it better by writing letters not by having hissy fits on forums or move on, buy a 2002 Rover and then see which eats more cash!!

No question that inflation is a fact of life. But in the past 2 years LotR plastics have risen 175%. There is a complete disconnect here that inflation does not account for.

175%?? name the product that this applies to please.

£6.20 for 3 iron guard 5 years ago, now £14.50 or something for 4.
So from £2ish to £3.5. Which is a rise of 75% in 5 years not 175% in 2 years.

I can't see any items that have nearly trippled in price.

GW prices were stagnant for a long time too. We forget that LOTR was disproportionally cheap when it came out. To get BGIME i could buy 12 men for £7 (cant remember exactly how much) when my 10 tactical marines were £15... that is quite a difference.

No that is roughly a "125% increase" (much in line with the cost of mars bars, bread, milk and baked beans, less than the increase in metal).

When it is an increase you don't include the original 100%.
You say. it used to cost 100% it now costs 225% so is a 125% increase.

My point is that it is ludicrous, which it is frankly. People don't eat Goblins though.

I will edit other post so I'm not stating wrong maths to people.

haha yeah, well MOST people don't eat Golbins.

I understand the point of view but just with inflation at roughly 4% 24 models would be costing £18.50 now (just did some mathshammer)
Inflation is an average of increases to the things people normally buy and how much people's wages are going up.

GW don't buy what people normally buy, infact only really buy metals and oils (plastics n resin)
The cost of Crude has gone up from roughly $30 a barrel(2001) to $80 a barrel(2011). So makes sense if plastic prices go up.
What are the molds made from? Rubber? again from oils
What runs the machines? electricity, from fossil fuels...again similar increases in price.
What delivers the goods? lorries fueled by oils again

I am not saying I think the prices are completely related to this but I am saying too many plebs like us (including myself there) flinch at price hikes and assume it is all for profit n money grabbing. But one look at the GW annual report says it isn't profit money as profits are not going up directly linked to price hikes.

Don't forget that producing plastic minis (as opposed to metal or resin) also requires that the metal master molds be custom machined, which is very expensive. That's why only troops that will sell in large volumes are sold in plastic, to ensure that they recoup their startup costs.

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/myt ... rc-warband

Take a look at Wargames Factory's stuff. They make plastic Orcs and Vikings (good for Rohirrim and Dunlendings) at a very good price, and they're multi-part so you'll never have 11 of the same Warrior of Minas Tirith holding his sword over his head. They aren't AS nice as the GW ones, and obviously aren't modeled off the movie Orcs but many of them do look like some older Alan Lee or John Howe art. They cost less than half as much, too. I've got a set of Orcs and a set of Vikings and I'm very happy with them.

They're a tad bigger (although if you shave off the "platform" they stand on before gluing to a base, it alleviates this problem considerably) but that isn't so far wrong for Orcs. When I get a few assembled, I'll post some pics. They're quite deep in the backlog, I'll have to dig them out lol.

Again, they're far different than GW Orcs. However, being described several times through the book as a rabble I don't find this a problem.

I love those orcs... like you said very different from the GW version but still excellent alternatives.
I agree that atm the older plastic sets are pants for bits n bobs. Newer sets like galadhrim, swan knights are better and the easterling set is great. But smaller buisnesses make themselves financially valid by doing these kind of sets. An art I appreciate... any may purcahse some of those

Think those Orcs could pass for Mordor Uruk-hai? That could explain them being a little larger, and then I might be able to afford to field some!

Wargames Factory and GW plastic conversions. Mostly head and weapon swaps from prototype frames.Sorry for the old photo. I am moving house and I do not know where the WGF models are.

On a side note about wargames factory plastic, particularly the bitz. One can get some great WGF bitz deals on ebay. They are also a great match for GW figures.
like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/360356518946?ss ... 987wt_1180

Saw this a while ago, and it quite neatly sums up GW's behaviour. It most certainly is not a rant over prices, but rather is a business owner giving his take on GW's practices based on his own experience of running a business. And it makes a lot of sense - the way GW is severely restricting Online Retailers, jacking up the prices, etc.

And this is his take on Finecast.
