First- one must have ten archers with the same type of bow (excluding crossbows). They must be touching base-to-base. Finally, your target must be at least eighteen inches away from all of said archers (there is a minimum fire range). Also, if you are good, then all friendly models must be at least 6 inches away as well. The archers don't have to see the model, only one friendly models must see the target.

One then shoots, usually rolling however many dice it is at once (at least, that's how I've always done it). Only the roll of six will hit, no matter the archer. No infantry may be hit by more than 1 arrow. No other model may be hit more times than it has wounds on its profile. After the first hit (or however many wounds hits) has been allocated on the target model, the players alternate choosing what the remaining arrows hit within 6 inches of the target model (which is why good may not volley if friendlies are w/in 12 inches). Roll to wound as normal.

Hope that helps!

Yes. You always have to roll to wound after hitting, since a hit in itself has no effect. It only makes it possible to wound.
