The Uruks look great, the photography not so much :P

Can I ask what you're using to take the photos?

A camera :P

I can take some better photos on a sunny day when the conditions are right, nad I have enough time and luck.

Thanks very much guys, though I think you must be looking at something else, because mine are most certainly not a sgood as your comments would suggest. I'm glad you like the blue skin, I had to specially make a wash using blue paint and water for the final layer but meh. I am happy with them though, especially with the Captain's face.

lol samoht. And again - whose Uruk-hai are you looking at, not mine surely

The Morgul Stalkers after a drybrush - still less than half done on these pics, though I have actually finished them now, but its too dark, so you may have a good wait.

Thanks again, it's only because of comments and advice that I still share things in my WIP, I think.

It's less the lighting and more the blurriness. Do you have a macro mode on your camera? It has a picture of a little flower. It makes it adjust the focus on smaller nearer objects.

Additionally, if it's an expensive lens camera, the lens on it might be to wide, so you'd need to stand really far back from your miniatures and then zoom in to take the photo.

I hope that helps :)

It is on macro. You do not want to see pictures without macro. Or maybe you do, if so look at the first couple of pics of my werewolves on page 1.

I go as far away as I can, sometimes it is far enough, sometimes i is not, it depends on the angle. There isn't a lot of space in my room to do that any further unfortunately.

Thank you for your help i anyway, its a much kinder than some peoples' (whom I will not name) attempt to 'help' anyway. 8)

Maybe you're just really shakey! Try a tripod?

I didn't used to be shakey, but that may have happened. If I come accross a tripod that costs less than the camera, I will look into it.

This might help (I know nothing of this seller's rep, but has a 99.4 positive rating).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Universal-Tripod-Stand-for-Canon-Sony-Nikon-Digital-Camera-/251119449289?pt=US_Tripods&hash=item3a77e2b4c9#ht_592wt_1374

Looks to be pretty universal so it should work out for you...hey, cannot go wrong for a $1. :D

Those morguls stalkers are great. The uruk conversions fit right in with the others. You nailed the colours too.

I don't know how you're taking photos, but to get close up shots, it is usually best to hold the camera closer to the figure instead of holding it at a distance away and then zooming in to get close.

More possibly useless advice on photography:
With my old camera I got a better shot if I stood back a little, DIDN'T zoom in, but then cropped the picture later digitally (using pretty much any photo software, including picture viewer in windows). Since the image I wanted to post was often only 640x something and my camera resolution was over 2000xsomething I still got a pretty good picture that was less blurry and less prone to shaking problems. But yeah, if the light is too dark any small shaking will stuff things up. I used to set my camera on timer mode when I had it in the right spot (balanced on a book about a foot away from the mini) and then let it do it's thing. The timer mode meant that my hands were no longer involved so it reduced the shaking a lot!
Anyway, some of that might be useful, some might not!

With a regular camera yes, but with a digital slr it depends on the lens.

Thank you all.

@samoht, as shieldmaiden says, zooming in is better, closer equals blurrier.

As for cropping, I may look into it, its just I don't like all the tediousness.

@blibo, a 50p tripod is it? pity its American, there may well be some on the uk one, i'll look into it november/december time probably.

Here's the sort of promised pics of the finished Morgul Stalkers, I've started the Mordor Orcs too, but I've not taken pics as the only advancement is tin bitz basecoat on metal parts. The green didn't come out as I wanted it to, I tried a green wash but for some reason it wouldn't retain so I was forced to just drybrush a few patches of green in places instead.

By the way both these pics look literally perfect on photobucket and in Windows, so if it isn't on here, our beloved One Ring is to blame.

By perfect do you mean crystal clarity?

And those stalkers look really awesome!

Any more conversions to come?

Try mixing a very small amount of white glue (PVA to you lot) into your green wash. It needs to be very watered down 1 in 20 or 1 in 30 parts or more. This might help you get the effect you want. And remember always try new techniques on a test figure first to see how you like it.

@samoht, presumably crystal clarity, bot I don't know the technical terms. Other convertions will be coming up gradually. About 1/3 way through the Mordor Orcs, all but 1 of which are converted, plus 8 spare great beast crew.

@kidterminal, its worked fine on other colours without PVA, inc. blue, it might just have been too weak, but I was too tired to try again.

@John Wayne, cheers

@garmenhorde, thank you, might i say how much I like your work.

I really like those Stalkers Gothmog, the skin is especially eye-catching 8) I can hardly tell the originals from the conversions 8) As for the camera problem, have you considered cropping/resizing the images? That could be what causes them to become blurry.
