Some progress. I finished off the horse's hoof, and I think it will do just fine. It's maybe not exactly anatomically correct, but it blends in nice enough, and it's a hoof for goodness sake! Who's going to look at him and say, "nice figure, but that hoof is really bad..."

Anyways, I also started on the boot of suladan. I was going to do it all in one go, but the putty wasn't sticking to his leg very well, and it just wasn't going well, so I will file and cut this one into shape, and probably sculpt on a bit more too. I would update on painting, but I haven't done any. I've been too busy removing the mold lines from 22 haradrim. It's pretty much winter here, and that means no spray undercoating for me....So I need to get it all done now.

Awesome!

You are making a Suludan? Nice one man! I agree with you on not wanting to spend money on just one figure.

It's funny you should mention his height on the previous page, because when I sculpted my Suludan, I ended up making him quite tall. He probably stands at least Seven feet tall compared to the other soldiers.

Creating tall figures is quite a common occurence for people doing their first one or two scratch sculpts. Myself included. The problem arises because the neck is often overlooked when making the intial armature calculations. Most people will have a wire armature with arms legs and torso, and leave enogh room for a head to be added later. But of course the head does not simply rest on the shoulders, it is connected by the neck, which when added, results in a taller miniature than was originally planned, and made even worse when hair or a helmet is added. I'm always conscious now to leave enough room for 1.5 heads, which works out about right to allow for the neck below and the hair above.

Got the mail today.

:D

I've put together one guy, and the heads seem to be fine. Maybe a little bigger, but not that noticable. However, the figures are taller overall, I'll have to decide if I want to do something about that...

Interesting!!
Always nice to see someone come up with non-GW miniatures that fit the LOTR-range!! :D

Looking forward to see them assembled and painted!

Hoorah!

I wouldn't bother with altering their height. Many GW figures are uneven in their height. It shouldn't matter.

$35. Including shipping. That's the same price as 12 plastic moria goblins from GW. These guys come with lots of extra weapons and arms and heads, moria goblins don't. Add ~$10/$15 dollars for bases, and you're still way further ahead. The only downside is that you only get two poses of torso/legs. But, mixing and matching heads and weapons, as well as different paint jobs, and maybe a few quick knee bending conversions should deal with that nicely.... :)

The sale's still on if you want to get some.....

@Samoht
Yeah, I probably will just leave them, they're close enough.
I don't have any more updates, other than to say I've been doing a lot of mold line removal lately. I ordered the some persian WF horses for my mounted mercenaries. Those should be here in about two weeks, and then I can really get started on things.

I'm quite interested to see how these line up against LOTR miniatures and with 120 to do I wish you luck.

Thanks for the link. :) 120 for $35? That's quite the deal. Do you know how long the sale will last?

Horsies!

So now I can really start with my khandish army. Right off the hop the horses looked too small, but after cleaning one up and putting it together it is spot on.

And a scale image of how the persian figure lines up to a haradrim...
Image

*Edit* 'Twould seem that just moving the legs over will not leave enough space to put them on the horses, so 'major' surjury it is....I also realised that I would have to do this anyways, if I wanted them to look right. The upper part of their leg is hidden by their tabbard/kilt thing, and they would not be sitting on the upper part of their leg! I will have to sculpt the tabard thing outwards to accomadate their legs yet.

Those are great looking horses. You are going to have a busy time converting all the riders. Good luck!

Fantastic idea. The conversions look to be coming along nicely so far.

Thanks guys. I've had lots of time to do hobby stuff recently, and that should continue; so I'm hoping to get a lot of work done on these guys. I finished making 12 horses, though I might need to do some gap filling on them yet. I have finished one guy's extensions and attached his legs, and have four more in progress. The single horse will probably be for one of my mounted chieftens, I plan on having it jumping over something....(that will be determined at a later date... ) I plan on having three mounted chieftens, 30 axe warriors, and 15 bow armed guys. I'm thinking of splitting them up into three different groups (1 chief, 10 axe, 5 bow) and painting each group in a different colour scheme; they are mercenaries after all!

Excellent work on these, so far. I had though about picking up some WGFactory stuff as stand-ins for Khandish Warriors, but haven't found a suitable chariot model.
