Last week I painted two small paintings, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's work.
I just wanted to know what you all think of them:

Nice effort and thanks for sharing.

IMHO I prefer the second as it's so obviously a Tolkienesque landscape and you can tell exactly where it's supposed to be without a caption. Also the pastel shades seem more appropriate.

Is that one of the blue wizards heading into the east, or Gandalf heading west towards the grey Havens?

Awesome use of colours on both paintings.

I intended to do one of the blue wizards, but I think it looks more like a sunset than a sunrise, so I don't really know...

I think it looks more like a sunrise. The colors of the landscape are light and this instantly evokes sunrises (at least for me). Both paintings give out feeling of lonelines, melancholy, and conclusion (although the first one still looks like a sunrise, )

As you can tell I like both, albeit I prefer the first.

I really like the bold colours on both of them. The second one is my favourite too, the golden leaves look good and the whole scene is very Lorien-like.

What paint did you use? Acrylics?

Thanks! Yep, acrylics. I used mostly folk-art paints and apple barrel colours.
