Well the dwarves and wargs are top notch, the White Council look good but there is something slightly "off" about them to me though that might go once seen in person. Now for the Goblins, I do not like the look of these, though I feel the paint job isn't helping, to me they have a look of Gothmog from the film and I HATE Gothmog from the film (its one of the few things I didn't like the look along with the wargs, which thankfully have been corrected). The Orcs look ok, nothing exceptional, but certainly not bad.
Overall rather underwhelmed personally but then I knew there wouldn't be too much I would be interested in with the Hobbit releases except for when we get to Dol Guldur.

Okay my impressions,

Scenery: it's nice, it will even look better if constructed on different levels like the last photo. I'm happy with it.
Goblins: initially I didn't quite like their looks, they seemed different to Tolkien's world. But I now love them, I think they look evil but in a funny way (like the Skaven). I'm extremely happy with them.
Bolg: Luckily he won't be included in the box since he's finecast. I hate the miniature and his depiction in general.
Orc Hunters: Likewise I am not fond of them. They look too man-alike.
Feral wargs: Great models, I agree with everyone's opinion about them, I hope they are included in the box set, but I doubt it since they weren't leaving inside the mountains.
White Council: Only Gadalf looks nice. The other three look to fat and out of proportion, but maybe it has something to do with the pciture.
Goblin King: My favorite mini, he is stunning, I am buying him 100%
Stone Giants: Likewise, absolutely great, and if I have a choice to equip them with either trunks or cooking utensils, even better.
Dwarves/Bilbo/Gandalf: I am happy with the majority of them. Bombur IS NT FAT, WHY WHY WHY???? Some look overly thin and tall. Gloin's pose is ugly and it reminds me of the MoM poses. Overall, I am happy with them majority, but saddened to see Bombur thin....
Radagast: could be better, could be worse.
Humans (the ones fighting the orcs): They look very realistic!

Those arent humans - those are the dwarfs.

I don't think they're humans Constantine - the one on the left is definitely Thorin.

Oops. You may be right there. My mistake.

Looking at the Great Goblin and the Trolls, I'm wondering about their height and scale.

Also, I urgently need to build a replica of Orthanc and have the new Saruman standing on the balcony  such a fitting for for him!

I must say I really like the new Galadriel. A much more befitting model than the 2 LoTR versions IMO. Still, i could never justify the price :(

To me, It does look like its getting disturbingly more warhammer though. A large increase in bones, skulls and dual-wielded weapons has me worried

And the translation of the box set contents:

Quote:
56 miniatures, scenery, dice, rules and regulations... 100 euros

The rulebook is 288 pages and 85 euros.

My general thoughts:

I'm a bit underwhelmed with a lot of the evil models, but that's mostly down to PJ & Co.'s design choices and not so much to do with GW's sculpting in particular.

I think that with some of the boils and pustules scraped away, and with a different color scheme, the goblins will look much better. I'll be going for pale green or blue-gray skin tones and maybe warpaint.

Probably going to give the hunter orcs a skip, except Fimbul who I quite like and looks like he'll fit in just fine with the existing LotR orcs.

I really dislike the look they went with for Bolg, but again that's not GW's fault. If I don't like the movie character, slim chance I'll like the model.

The trolls are fun and I like that they can be equipped with branches and cooking utensils, which I'll definitely do for mine.

For the most part the good models really look pretty good! As a previous poster mentioned, Bombur is not fat enough. I also feel like Dwalin's pose is pretty stiff, but otherwise I'm pleased. I'll have to take a knife to Bifur and Nori, though, to scrape away the ax-head and braided eyebrows (respectively).

The White Council miniatures are nice enough, but they're horribly overpriced for characters that we already have at least 2 sculpts of each (many more than that for Gandalf), so I just don't see the point.

All in all, it looks like I'll aim to get the starter set and we'll see about a few other sets.

Just noticed that little goblin in front of the king. Broodling type rules perhaps?

The scenery is awesome! I did notice above one of the pics some text that read "combine multiple sets for an even bigger..." I hope that we get a decent amount of scenery in the base box.
On the catalogue page there is a box called "Goblin Town" (Google translates it as "Goblin City") for €45. I wonder if that is a booster set? Rewatching the trailers tonight, I paid a lot more attention to those scenes and it looks immense!
Time to dust off the ice cream sticks and white glue...

I agree the scenery can easily be made with sticks, pretty poor in MHO

The only things I'm disappointed with are the lack of stuff available yet (not a huge problem!) and the colour scheme for the goblins.

The goblins will look great in a dirtier palette and the dwarves look simply amazing. I'll have to wait and check the rules for the hunter orcs and warg riders as I already have 100+ Mordor orcs and 20+ warg riders. That said, you can never have enough! Some of the designs for the film are a bit odd, but they may grow on me once I've seen the film.

The only redundant set for those with existing collections is the White Council. The Gandalf and Galadriel sculpts are great though.

I can't wait to get painting!

The Dwarves are great - the rest leave me more then a little underwhelmed...
