Another update (quite pic heavy) as I have finished my character models for the Easterlings. This is the first time I done something resembling line highlighting and I think it worked out quite well though the new camera is rather unforgiving on the close ups:

I've now started work on the Morgul Knights:

Which only leaves this to do currently, which is a joy when I look back and see three boxes of unpainted miniatures from when I started:

Amy is finishing up on her troops and started work on the characters as well:

That's all for now, not sure how much will be done over Christmas but I'm hoping to complete the Morgul Knights before returning to work but it might not be possible.
As always C&C very much welcome.

Nice work Amy and Phil - I bet it feels great to see that your unpainted is now the minority!! Great stuff!

Well its been a rather busy time over the holidays so no painting was done, I did receive a Radagast model though which I'll be doing after this lot. We did manage to squeeze in a few games of Warpath, not LOTR unfortunately, so this is slightly off topic but I thought I show a few snaps of of the tables:

We'll be back to painting this week so they'll be more on topic photos coming soon.

Your easterlings look amazing Crucium! May I ask how you painted them? I just started an easterling army and I've been messing around with painting them but I can't seem to get the armor and cloth right. Just wondering if you were willing to share.

Hi Dragon and thank you,

The key with my Easterlings was a simple paint job that looked decent enough as there were a fair few of the fellows to get through. I'll apologise in advance for the paint names as I don't know the new ones.

Step 1: Undercoat black (I use pound shop matte black car spray, works a treat and guess what its only £1!)
Step 2: Dry brush the boots with Codex Grey
Step 3: Paint the remaining cloth Mechrite Red
Step 4: Paint all of the metal minus the sword blade Tin Bitz, paint sword blade Chainmail and the square inner shape of the shield Calthan Brown
Step 5: Paint all Tin Bitz areas Shining Gold
Step 6: Wash all areas but the sword blade Delvan Mud, wash the sword blade Badab Black

For the characters I simple did a highlight after washing them with Mechrite Red on the applicable cloth, chainmail on the sword and a 50/50 mix of Chainmail an Shining Gold on the metal.

One thing I did do half way through painting these is is start replacing GW paints for Vajello and Army Painter ones, the colour match was excellent and the paint itself performed better (and they are cheaper). This is of course personal preference of course but I really do suggest people try the Army Painter "inks" which match up to the old (Delvan etc) GW washes except flow much better over miniatures.

Hope that helps you out and I look forward to seeing some pictures of them in your own blog (hint hint) ;)

Those trees, especially the snowy ones, look really, really cool!
How did you make them?

Not mine I'm afraid Sid, however I do believe they are model railway trees which have been based.

Thanks for all the comments, I wish I could claim the banner was freehand but it is in fact sculpted. The photos could have been a bit brighter as some of the detail isn't showing up that well but they'll do for now.
