Most of the new dwarves are slightly larger, with Thorin and Dwalin being quite a bit bigger and Balin and Ori and maybe a couple other being smaller.

Seriously? It's bad enough that many (non-obsessed) people I've talked to forgot at various points in the Hobbit that the Dwarves were in fact Dwarves since they didn't really look too 'dwarvish', but to change the scale of the models? That's almost inexcusable and really pushed down my interest in getting the EfGT set.

I would expect MAYBE a slight increase in size, but it shouldn't be anything dramatic. Putting any of the Hobbit dwarves next to my LotR metal Gimli or Balin, for example, they should blend in reasonably well. It sounds like they may be nearly mannish size from your comments though.

Any chance of some side-by-side pics??

Well I always thought the GW versions were Devlan Mud anyway, they're the same height as Hobbits, so I'm glad for the changes, now I can have a movie collection that lines up well

Gloin is actually the same size as Gimli, I was comparing them to the plastics, who are VERY short.

Good catch if Gwaihir is in fact sculpted as he appears in the film, though I admit I was NOT looking for a talon-scale comparison when I watched it. 8) Maybe when I have it on disc I can pay more attention to those details.

Do you happen to have one of the new eagles as well? If not, can you at least get a pic of Gwaihir next to a Fell Warg and/or typical model we're all familiar with (Gandalf, Legolas, etc.)? Just curious of the size and appearance in scale.

No Eagles, and it wasn't my Gwaihir either, I'm not buying anyEagles until those Wood Elves are released, and Radagast's Bunny Sled. Because unitl I have the option to buy the Eagles, Wood Elves and Bunny Sled, I don't plan on buying any good guys, as those three things are the only things that make them cool. So next Xmas, sorry to dissapoint you.

I can tell you roughly how bug they are, from memory though. The regular Eagles have a dsimilar wingspan to the plastic fell beast, I thin it was a little longer, but it';s hard to tell as the eagle's wings are flatter. Heightwise, it depends on the length of the fling stand. They have 60mmish bases, and their talons are big enough to fit bilbo in if I recall correctly.

Ah good, I will pick some Eagles up myself soon, I will start my first ever Good (not Evil) army.

Is that glass a Baratheon glass, because the design looks awfully like thre Baratheon Crowned Stag from GoT?

I like the way the wings are modeled for sure. Can the stand be made higher at all?

That's the Eagle (as opposed to Gwaihir)? Damn, I need the local stores to get them in soon!

Yeah, I see something like that and want to get it, but then realize GW is gouging me for $85 for a book. So I pass on this while I save my 'fun money' for the book. Way to shoot yourself in the foot, GW.

The profile in the free people's book is exactly the same for the eagles as in the hobbit book.

yup, that's the normal Eagle, not Gwaihir. There are 2 different height stands in the box, can't tell which one is in the pic though as I've put him back in his figure case!
As Dunedain says- the Free Peoples book contains Gwaihir and the Eagles as a warband and they have the exact same profile as the rule book.

Yes Gothmog, it's this Baratheon stein: http://store.hbouk.com/game-of-thrones- ... nd-glasses

Ah, see I already shelled out $150 for the LE Escape From Goblin Town set and $150 for the set of army books which, as said, contains rules for the Eagles. I have everything I need except profiles for newer models. I have no want for the big rule book. Especially at $100.

I have the Free Peoples book and have played Eagles (and Ents) allied with my Wood Elves in the past. I just never got the GW metal eagles as I wasn't that impressed with them. These plastics are very nice though. Sadly to make them game-effective you really need the monster rules and so cart must follow horse, and the horse is the new rules (either EfGT or hard cover).

thats why I tend to check all FC models in store before leaving so if there is a problem, it can be rectified straight away.

Yes, always check FineCast miniatures in store before leaving. In my experience the staff don't mind, and in my experience actually encourage it. That way if there are any issues they can resolved asap, usually straight away.

Can you compare that to a larger model, like a troll or the Balrog? From that picture, it looks like it's wingspan is about the same, if not a little longer than the Balrog's.

Ok, no worry. How many inches is the wingspan?
