That's a good start. I hope you'll be using a GW LOTR head as the Persian ones seem to big to me.

Thanks. I'm not sure about the head. I haven't decided what I'll be using yet. But, he is a hero, and thus I'm fine if he's a little bit bigger than the normal guys.

A little more progress today, hopefully I'll get even more done yet, but I have to wait for the putty to dry...

I started on one of the straps that holds on the grieves. I will wait for this part to dry, and then add the buckle and end of the strap. I'm planning on having two on each grieve. I'm also widening my first grieve slightly as the second one ended up wrapping around his legs a bit more. I could tell that the second one was bigger by sight, so I thought I should fix it, otherwise it would bug me forever. I decided I liked the wider, second one; so, rather than cutting down the wide one, I'm widening the narrow one. I also decided that I wanted a pointy gem thing on the pommel of the sword.

A quick update, I finished the first strap and buckle assembly, only three more to go.

Here's some of the stuff I've been working on. First off, three wood elves that I painted for an article. (I'm having trouble with the article system, but hopefully that can get sorted soon...) The spearmen on the right is not new, but the other three are.




Next there's an update on my suladan conversion. Nothing too interesting, just another couple of straps and a buckle. This guy is going really slowly.



And finally, I managed to undercoat some mercenaries, and have started painting the horses. The brown ones are done, the grey ones need a couple of highlights and their eyes done.

Nice. The Wood Elves look nice.

Those horses are looking good so far, and the Wood Elves are great Looking forwards to seeing Suladan finished

These past two days have been great for hobby work. Yesterday we had +2 degrees celcius, and now today we're back down to a more reasonable -12, with a blizzard on the way. The unseasonably warm day was great for getting some undercoating done, and now with the blizzard I'm not going anywhere!

Anyways, pics. If anyone has some good pictures of horses with various markings, and how they paint them, I would appreciate any help. (socks, muzzle things, etc.)




And totally unrelated, elladan. (or elrohir... ) This is one of those part painted figures from a couple of years ago or so. I had lots of spare grey, and I didn't want to waste it.

Basecoat scorched brown, wash badab black, highlight scorched brown, highlight scorched brown with a little bestial brown.

I finished a test rider. These guys are quite simple in comparision to my haradrim, only two different cloth colours! I figure that they're poor wanderers that have been forced to fight for money to feed themselves, rather than uber rich guys.

Alrighty. I've finished up the test figures for the three colour schemes I plan on using. I plan on having one cheiften, ten with sword and five with bow in each colour scheme.

The red, as previously mentioned are the poorer folk, forced to fight for food. The black are the night-time specialists. I was going to have them completly black, but decided to go with a little bit of colour and added the dark blue. And finally the purple. They are the rich guys.

The light washed out the pictures, but they're what I've got for now.

You should paint the horse's gear blue for the black clad guys. Otherwise looking good. I sill can't take the big heads though.

Thanks, though how do they look wierd? The figures are a lot simpler than gw haradrim, with only a couple of different colours on them. They blend in well enough on the table though.

@kidterminal Thanks. I really want to go for the black look; I only added the blue becuase if they were all black I thought they might look unfinished. So I'm planning on keeping the tack black, but thanks for the suggestion. And yes, the heads are big, but on the table they look fine, and that's what counts!

Try painting them a charcoal grey or dry brushing them with a dark grey. You can also try some very dark brown on the horse to give it some depth.

Yeah, in the pictures the black is rather washed out. There are more highlights irl. I am planning on doing some dark brown horses for these guys as well, not just black.

And what I did today. I whipped up a quick goblin/dwarf platform. I had the idea to do the rope wrappings,and really ran with it on this one. It not only looks good, but it actually does help make this piece much sturdier.

Very nice piece so far.. but for Goblin town it still looks far too accurate and rectangular... dare a little more chaos maybe
