No, it doesn't bother me either, I just mentioned it as an example of the dangers of thinking too logically about how the rules work (or are supposed to work), after all, a horse is much smaller than a troll, but weighing in at half a ton it doesn't really need to have a rider to knock you over if it really wants to........

As for cavalry knocked down... I can see it both ways. I always found it stupid to remove the horse if still alive, he can't just disappear.

This is something that could have been addressed with the 'Expert Rider' rule.

Anyway...
You could declare a heroic fight with a hero monster (or a hero in the same fight as a friendly monster), hurl the victim down a line of troops and if he dies you can move again and attack the guys you just knocked over. You're burning might to do it, but in the right circumstances it could lead to your monster getting double strikes on a prone hero.

I definitely can see a cavalry model being flung through the air being auto dismounted, but if a regular cav model gets knocked over by a monstrous mount or just getting hit by something, they should be allowed to stand back up, especially if they have Expert Rider.

maybe GW got horses mixed up with cats and decided that horses were all ninja and always landed on their feet?

check out the rules for hurl on page 281. the second bullet point makes the rule much more balanced.
