So here's my first ever Finecast model! Thror, son of Thrain, The Last king under the mountain. His sword was a bit bend, but overall he was good, and I have to say the small detail on finecast is amazing. I think he turned out quite good! Hope you guys like him.

I glad you had no problems with the model. It turned out great and nice fast paced painting. Excellent work :yay:

Great painting on the face, the beard, the armor, well pretty much in everything. I am not very enthusiastic about the pose of the miniature, the stretched hand with the shield in particular, but nevertheless you did him justice.

This looks way better than GW's version, stunning work. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to steal your shading on the cloak, the shading in the arch leading down to the lightness at the bottom of the cloak is amazing. The face is very realistic, I could go on but I'll just end up picking everything out.

One of the best lotr/hobbit sculpts and your painting does it justice.

Wow, the gold looks really effective, especially against the blue.

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate all the feedback! For me Thror is definitely my favorite mini right now, really awesome sculpt and had a lot of fun painting him.

Let me know if you want the paint recipe I used.

I like picked him up Saturday, cleaned and assembled him at GW Store, came home, did basing and priming. And did all the painting Sunday afternoon, that's how much I wanted to paint this guy! ^^

I can see your point with the shield, but I suppose that if someone makes a swing with a sword, the other hand with the shield would be where it is on this guy. For me personally I'm not too fond of the sword maybe that's because mine is a little bent, but other then that this is one awesome guy, really good sculpt and I have to say very well in proportion, especially the head. I also compaired him with one of the older Dwarfs, and I just LOL'd! :D

I also finished my Grimhammer Captain, who turned out alright, even though this face had a few trouble areas. I also wrapped up Fili & Kili, which in my opinion didn't turn out that well, but here they are nonetheless. Only Nori & Gandalf left from Thorin's Company, I added a shot of the entire party.

Btw I love the fact Facebook recognizes the faces on my mini's and asks me to tag them :D!

Fili & Kili (I might even redo Kili's face if I look at this pic :( )

Thorin's Company, excluding Nori.

Feedback welcome :D

Great painting. No need to redo those faces! Very expressive already. Spend time on more figures. I really like them. Can't decide whether to go for red Grimhammers or Brown myself. Red like Khazard Guard might fit in better with my figures but brown is more akin to the images from the film.

I've ran across this picture of Thrain the other day, after I painted my Grimhammers that is. And check out the color on these guys, it seems I ain't that far off. ^^

Can't agree more, some wonderful painting capped by a splendid Thror. I particularly love the way you've done his fur coat.

I'm glad I have this effect on people! :P, For me personally I wasn't sure if I should buy them specifically cause they're not that great on the table compaired to Khazad Guard, but I'm glad I did. They are really great sculpts, and the dynamic poses are awesome. And they didn't turn out too bad on the table either, with their throwing axes ^^

The recipe for the furcloak is as follows;

Paints I used are a mix of GW paints & Vallejo, so as for names, any equivalant will do.

Step 1: Paint all the fur with Dryad Bark
Step 2: Drybrush with a 1:3 Mix of Cold Grey (codex grey) and Dryad Bark
Step 3: Drybrush with a 2:3 Mix of Cold Grey and Dryad Bark
Step 4: Wash with Agrax Earthshade
Step 5: Drybrush with Cold Grey, working down
Step 6: Drybrush with a 1:3 Mix of Bonewhite (Bleached Bone) and Cold Grey, start working down to the most upper parts
Step 7: Drybrush with 2:3 Mix of Bonewhite and Cold Grey, picking out only the most raised areas and sides
Step 8: Drybrush with Bonewhite try to remove as much paint as possible otherwise it get's too white'ish, and do this only on the bottom 2/3 outstretching parts
Step 9: Randomly Highlight and pick out some hairs here and there with Bonewhite
Step 10: Randomly pick out some areas and give it a thin wash of Sepia Shade, this creates a realistic lighter/darker hair contrast
Step 11: Highlight with a light grey, I used a mix of 2:3 Dead White and Cold Grey, some random hairs here and there, and pick out the edging on the front, and top. I felt this makes all the colors come together. This is also a good time to redo any spots which turned out too have excessive Bonewhite, just redo them with this color.

Good Luck ^^

This WIP is just another reason to be incredibly tempted to invest in an army of Thror...

Great work pal, watching with interest! I think your Thor is one of my favourite models I've seen since being on the forum :)
