The prices for the new Hobbit stuff were already too much of a price increase, they cannot be upping it even more. I reckon GW will decline and disappear if this continues to happen, cos the prices are getting out of hand now.

People say this every year, and every year the prices go up and people grudgingly pay them. Some WHFB kits are way overdue an increase by GW logic (£15 10-model kits, like skeletons and empire state troops) so that'll definitely be happening this year, and I'd expect to see a general rise in the prices of character models too.

I don't think the Hobbit releases themselves will go up in price (that'll be in 2014) but other things will likely be hiked into line with the prices of the new stuff. That said, they almost doubled the cost of the existing LotR plastics when they halved the box sizes, and that wasn't very long ago, so they might not go up this time. Books will, though, I'd wager.

Nothing is impossible with Gamesworkshop. You cannot rule out the possibility of them increasing prices on recent releases. Its Standard GW policy. Sales are falling, squeezing your profit margin? Jack the prices up again, that'll solve everything.

So, when will we most likely see a price raise?
Would it be a good idea to make a list of my top-wants and go buy them before it's too late?

I feel like the Hobbit price raise has more to do with supply demand than the normal greed; the Goblin Captain, a single metal miniature, costs $30 in my country of Australia, while almost no single non-Hobbit models cost anywhere near that.

Has to be supply and demand, if you ask me.

No. As I understand it, Australias prices are due (according to GW itself) to exchange rates, taxes and shipping costs. GW argues that its expensive to ship products over to Australia, so they jack the prices up even more. There was a huge upset over the whole thing a couple years ago when GW banned European retailers (Weyland Games et al) who actually offer sane prices, from shipping overseas to Australia (which, even after paying taxes, exchange rates, shipping fees etc was STILL much cheaper than buying directly from GW outlets in Australia).

Its got nothing to do with demand.

Wait, really? That's amazing, and stupendously stupid. It's a major bump up though, even for shipping costs, whatever strange ultra-expensive method they're using; they're practically DOUBLING the cost, and that just doesn't seem fair to be honest, we're being forced to fork out more money coz we live somewhere else.

Well, thanks for saying that, Ondo. Although it seems to make the situation even less sensible in my mind.
