Yeah it's a GIF. I just uploaded all of the photos to google+ and it did it automatically but there are loads of websites that will make a GIF out of a series of still images or frames from a video.

Great painting, but I think it's turning a little too quickly.

So I've finished my exams and got Uni sorted so I've returned to the painting table. As some of you know I'm pretty into making videos about my stuff (link to my youtube channel in my signature) and I've made a basing tutorial one if you want to check that out. I also recently acquired a plastic Fellowship set (for free, I'd never spend money on those sculpts over the finecast ones) and have made a start on Aragorn:

Any advice on where to go from here?

I like the videos but the rotating gif is a fantastic way of showing off a mini in a few seconds - very neatly done!

That looks like Woodland Scenic earth blend covered with medium green blend.There is some medium green clump foliage too.

The photo is very basic. Sometimes that is better for wargame terrain. I would add Scenic express pasture blend too.


I think I misunderstood your question. Add a dark umber wash to the gray rock for a warmer earth tone.

Dry brush with ocher then wash with umber. Dry brush again with an off white. I would use Plaid brand sand. Sorry, some one may be able to suggest GW colors I don't use them.

I rarely use greys on my rock formations. I base with charandon granite, then drybrush graveyard earth, then kommando khaki, with a light brush if bleached bone. If you go to light on colour, a wash with a brown like Devlan mud will dull it down. Results in a much earthier and natural hue.

Very simple but extremely effective piece of natural terrain.

I use a method or working through greys and browns to get my finished look for rocks.
I start with a black undercoat then work through the colours with drybrushing as follows
Shadow grey, snakebite leather, codex grey, graveyard earth, fortress grey, bleached bone, white. Now a wash of 4 parts water 1 part Catachan green, final drybrush of fortress grey then white.
This gives you the below
