Thank you forthe nice comments.

That will be a sublime background for photos of the Balrog, the Fellowship, Moria goblins. A bit of strategic lighting for the flames and 'lava' glow to add to the atmosphere. This is very deonstraive of why PJ & Co went for 'Bigatures' for many of the large pieces in the LotR films as they could get so much detail and interest into something that could be filmed in scores of different ways.

I am going to be spending more time with the One-ring role playing game. I would like to add some more of this kind of element. I will make the sleeping giant for the Misty Mountains and some more elements for Mirkwood. The Witch Kings tomb looks interesting too.

Here is where I am with the stair.

I should get the base marked up tomorrow but I am helping the club with a pirate game Saturday. Mike has built a special surprise table for it. I am just bringing ships and custom crews.

As you know Charlie I like to offer something wherever I can to develop / improve work. And at risk of buffing your ego, I can find nothing to improve, it is a stunning piece of work.

Thanks!

The next step will be the Magma.
I am not sure how to do it. So I have decided to make small mistakes rather than large mistakes. I am going to experiment with some smaller projects before I tackle the large model.

Image

I am going to try LEDs with Bones, clear resin and Realistic Water and Water Effects.
I am also going to experiment with shells and light effects, This is new ground I don't know how hot or how bright the light will be. The shell will be a combination of plaster bandage and paper. I won't be able to tell how well it will work until I try it.

Image
What is this? Some of you have seen some of the back lit explosion effects on the net. I am going to see if I can make flaming magma.
Next  I need some yellow spray paint.

Good luck with your experiments. I'm afraid this area I have no knowledge of but I will way Hadith interest.

Wow you are really going to town with this project with glowing fire and lava! My only concern would be the heat build up from the lights. Might be worth adding some small fans out of sight to keep the electrics cool?

That is a major concern for me. The old school lights may end up too hot even wit a fan. I am afraid some one could leave it plunged in over night in the Store window display. The LEDs may be the answer. I may wire in some kind of timer and a fuse. Dale is a Fire Department Captain and Gleen an electrician. I will have people looking over my shoulder. Safety first 8)

I will also try aluminum foil. I sprayed the poli fil with yellow, orange and red paint. I pulled the poli fil through the wire for a hot gas effect. I will cover the wire with paper or foil and plaster bandage and paint it like stone.
The six volt LEDs are brighter than this old fashioned bulb. I may need to use more red.

This is not back lighted. The Poli fil will be under the base. This is the effect I am going for.

Looks great! Are you going to do some battles inside your holds when they're ready?

Wow, that looks amazing. Very well done. Are you going to do some OSL on the lower rock walls to tie it all together? This really looks great!

I don't think so. But I will have to judge when the LEDs are finished.
Thanks for the nice comments 8)

Thank you!

I could not use the flash because the foil was unpainted'

Image

I have to add plaster bandage to the foil and paint it. I still need to build the light box and position the LEDs for the best effect. This is going to work out well for the first time I have tried it.

I won't know if I will need to add the wire frame to the foil until I try to add the plaster bandage. It will probably be better to over build it. I will finish up the wire harness and quit for the night.

Please comment. The suggestions have been very helpful.

Excuse my ignorance but is the foil just to reflect heat away from the underside or does it serve some other terrain related purpose? I am curious. It is a lovely blend of yellows and oranges you have there. It will look great when done I think. 8)
