The Balrog in the movie was never Smaug's size, and in the book it's basic form was the size of a man. They didn't scale it back by that much.

I don't think GW would not make Smaug. Its just too big a marketing oppertunity. I mean the Balrog was almost the size of Smaug as they scaled that down by a huge amount!

Yeah, why would they make a Mumakil or Balrog, and not make a Smaug? That's something they can actually charge a pretty penny for, and people will undoubtedly buy. It'd be worth it!

Of course they'd make Smaug. He's probs the main antagonist of TDOS and the title character. Plus he will be needed for scenarios. Also $$$$$$$$

This is about Smaug in DOS:

Since Smaug doesn't die in DoS, I think it's probable they will wait until next year to release a model, if they release anything at all.

Completely agree. I'd say a lake town focused supplement this time next year. Theres still something that tells me smaug the model is way way off.

In the new DOS GW book there is a brilliant picture of Lake Town buildings in the back ground. Maybe built for the photo, maybe a future kit. I agree with the above, next year will be the big releases

Nice find Harfoot! Didn't notice it until now.

I have to say, it does look a lot like a new scenery set. That is: I don't recongnize them as any of the already, Warhammer Fantasy related, scenery. So this must be either new or custom made stuff. :-D

Maybe they'll release it later on, perhaps at the same time as the Laketown Guard and Bard?

So, I asked at my FLGS ( with an online store component ) about the new hobbit sourcebook. They said they will not be stocking it, or any hobbit stuff, and can not special order it because the distributors are not stocking it. The distributors are not stocking any of it because it is not selling. Interesting.

I bought all my DoS miniatures and books from my local independent stockist and they have store stock as well as all the ordered in stock.

I guess it depends on the stockist, the country may also make a difference.

To expand on what Farmer Maggot said. Our local stockist sold out the maximum stock he could order for release day (mostly to me n maggot)
Then they ordered more and I am considering buying more

I think I'm going to get the book even though I'm not getting any models. The new rules for woods and the new scenarios look very fun!

Yeah, the woods are good, seems like GW fixed the "random terrain" problem from 40k

That would be very welcome indeed. There are a few warhammer pieces that would be okay, but it takes too long to remove all the skulls and comets.

What're the thoughts on the balance of the new points match scenarios? Especially the ones that have a defender and an attacker.

Sadly the Turkish disturbutors don't bring any LOTR/Hobbit stuff. Just 40k or fantasy. You need to order yourself to them what you want which is quite boring since you can't just wander in the store one day and buy something you like in LOTR.
