I had a long think about making it a 'Merc' army...so being able to have standard dwarf/elf/men captains & troops. But the more I think of rules for them, the more I just want them to be an addition to existing armies...not a viable force on their own.

I may add some outcasts from different races however.

I am using British 2 pence pieces mainly because of the weight they add.

you could do more dwarfs than elves, hundreds of dwarfs became homeless after a certain dragon came and took their mountain, maybe some took up with these sellswords looking for work, because they are in fact outcasts. just a thought for you to cinsider

Bring me that horizon!

- Originally Weathertop Aragorn
- Added a pirate cutlass
- Filed some of the hair down so when I paint him he will be balding
- Replaced flame brand with bow
- Added arrow quiver

Anáron, Blackwood Sergeant

Corsair, Sea rat, Pirate. Many names have been given to Anáron’s previous calling before joining The Company. He was the quartermaster of a small vessel called the Blackbird. The Blackbird was just one ship in a flotilla of ships that would harass trading vessels and small ports in the southern lands, for he had a hunger for the only thing that seemed to matter…Gold.
When Sauron’s second rise came about, many ships hoisted their sails and captains heeded the call of the dark lord. Anáron’s captain and a number of other captains however did not, and for a time carried on in their pillaging and thievery, with the Blackbird at its head.

For the Dark Lord, this was not to be tolerated. A scream of a nazgul shook fear into the heart of the crew as the main mast was torn from its supports. A force of orcs & corsairs loyal to their new master appeared in the morning mist, and took the rebellious fleet by surprise.

To say they fought valiantly or honourably would be a lie…cutthroat tactics and dirty fighting, fighting to kill was the order of the day, but Anáron was not one for ‘going down with the ship’. So in the heat of battle, as the clang of sword and shield echoed around, he sheathed his cutlass, grabbed his captain’s maps, and disappeared into a longboat.

A very nice project you have chosen! That are unique models you have created here, I am really looking forward to seeing them all painted!

Btw: Is it not very expensive with all the coins as bases?

Really awesome conversions so far, are you pinning the parts or just supergluing them?

I wish I had a Weathertop and Amon Hen Aragorn just to use as conversions, they're such nice models but you can't get them any more :(

New member!

- Originally Fellowship Aragorn
- Added second longsword
- Replaced new arrow quiver & bow on his back with conversion kit one
- Replaced aragorns head with Theoden head

Old man Balian, Blackwood Sergeant

Balian was a stubborn old hermit that lived on the outskirts of a woodland by the River Adorn. The people of the nearby village knew who he once was, a hero of renown in the wars of ages past, he had grown old, tired of the ways of battle, and he wanted a simple, quiet life. He had no family to speak of and kept himself to himself. All the people of the village knew better than to approach him though. They all knew better apart from one young boy in the village, who wanted to learn to be a knight, to learn from the best. Brandon refused time and time again, saying he had no time for the stupid boy as a pupil.

One winters night however, Balian was awoken from his sleep, he started to hear voices, cries in the darkness. He looked outside his door to see smoke distance, the village was aflame, the sounds of butchery, the mark of the white hand. Although the years had been many, Balian switched his mentality to combat as if he were in his youth. He went over to his wall, no time to don his armour, and attached two sword scabbards to his belt. Put his token around his neck, and hurried down the dirt path towards the village.

The smells of blood, the carnage of battle that he had been so used to was like a distant dream, he tried to save as many villagers as he could, cutting foes down with his twin swords, surprised how age had not diminished his skill, but in the end the Uruks were to many.

He fled the village, a few ragtag survivors at his heels, as he saw the last of the villagers into the forest, he looked back to see that annoying, young boy who wanted to be his pupil, dead, pinned against a tree.

Love these conversions and the back stories behind them! looking forward to seeing them painted, are you painting them in a collective paint scheme or having lots of different individuals?

I'm honestly not sure...I think distinction would be cool...but I'm a sucker for uniform/order in my troops...

I may make these 'Hero' models individual and then the bog standard 'Blackwood Ranger' all uniform...should be finished by the weeks end with painting starting sat/Monday if I have time.

Holy Handgrenades...

you are truly a man of skill with conversions and pen. I would love to see what happens to and with this Brotherhood bound in treachery and tragedy!

Lovely conversions and please, please continue writing that fluff! Makes all of us want to learn more and start our own rag-tag band of wanderers!

Great conversions, and I like the idea of a reasoned history/backstory.
Are you looking for more names for the band members?

Thanks for all the awesome comments!

I figured if I was making my own army they would need some kind of history...and I'd enjoyed writing fluff for captains before...this is just the next stage I think...

Yes definitely painting is next on my agenda...I'm not that good a painter but hopefully I can do them justice!...Just after I show the main bulk of Blackwood Rangers commanded by Hood ;D
