That is first class, great effort picking out the detail.
The base is the stand out though, the blood has worked brilliantly and looks realistic to the point of me looking to get some of this paint. If you add a touch of a dark brown it would resemble a dried blood, if you ever want that look.

Some lovely work from you again, I really like the bases you put together for the miniatures as they just add that something extra to the miniature.

Very nicely done. You've got a very realistic painting style and the blending is excellent!

The bases are great. Are they purchased, or did you make them yourself?

Thanks, its taken a lot of practice and patience to get these blends to look natural. I've actually learned a lot with this current army I've been painting and I've challenged myself with different techniques than what I'm used to (ie.. more layering instead of dry brushing, thinner layers requiring more coats, watering down my washes, using different size brushes for different areas instead of my trusty 0 or 000).

As far as the bases go, I wish I could take credit for casting them but they're actually made by Secret Weapon. I just painted them with more earthy tones rather than the typical grey tones I've seen around.

Really great. The severed hand is a nice touch.

Lovely work, I have young Thorin in my backlog and I hope I can paint him as good as you have done.

With only having a few more dwarves to paint, I decided to paint Thrain up so I could use him this past weekend and get a feel for how my new Erebor army holds up in a game. With that being said, here he is....

After painting around 50 dwarves, I thought I deserved a little treat. Alas, my Saruman on Horse model was begging for some brush time and I happily obliged. Upon seeing DMS's Azog model (which was fantastic as is all his works), I was inspired to try a cork base. I have never really based on cork before, so it was a first for me. Here is my finished work...

Let me know what you guys think. I've learned it's a good motivational tool. Thanks again...

Everything looks great, Thrain looks particularly good.

At first I wondered why an Orc hand was hanging off of Thorin's sword, then I realized it was Azog's...a nice touch!

These figures look good but from what I can see Thrain looks exceptional. Are you able to produce better close ups because if ever a figure needed it then it is this one.
His face and the excellent highlighting make him stand out.

Fantastic base (and painting) on Saruman! The other minis look fantastic too and I do quite like the little "scenic" addition to Thorin's pose!

I'll see what I can do when I get home from work. I've been taking these pictures with my Galaxy S3 phone which doesn't have a macro mode. I actually made a light box last night, but since it was -15 degrees, I wasn't about to go out and get the proper lighting. I'll try my wife's camera and give it a go tonight.

Hopefully these pictures will do the piece a bit more justice.

Let me know what you guys think about the background. I thought it looked alot better instead of a plain white background.

Dammit! I've been waffling about getting all the minis on this page for the past little while. I think you've convinced me to get at least Saruman, Thrain and young Thorin. Balin is still iffy for me, since I have the EfGT version and his LoTR mini as well.

Thrain does look great (even though he appears to be impersonating The Rock with that expression) and the cork base for Saruman does indeed work wonderfully, I'm going to need to try it out myself.

Fabulous painting work - those closeups are amazinf (I see where The Rock reference comes from) :) Very well done - Saruman mounted is tremendous!
