I'll post this here as well in case I have some better luck

So after watching the gbhl battle report corsairs vs galadhrim, I really liked the theme and picked up some corsairs to convert into reavers. I would like my army to be comprised if very specific units in order to create the theme of umbar (or at least the way I imagine it)

The troops I'm thinking of are:
Corsair reavers
Black numenoreans
Morgul knights
Mordor orcs for spear support
(Potentially some haradrim spearmen)

As for heroes:
The knight if umbar
The dark marshall
Dalamyr, fleetmaster of umbar
Black numenorean marshall
The mouth of sauron
And corsair captains/ bo'suns (although I can't find them anywhere)

So the idea here is a n elite frontline of either reavers or black numenoreans backed up by cheap orc spear support and maybe morgul knights as an elite cavalry (probably at more than 500 pts).

The knight of umbar on a fell beast for combat or the dark marshal on a horse fot those rerolls. The mouth of sauron is of course a cheaper option for some spell casting. Dalamyr can lead the reavers and do most of the combat (although I could live without him in the army). Finally orc captains in order to field more cheap orcs.

So what do you think? Could an army like that be competitive? I certainly like the theme and it has a very unique touch to it.

how about this list?

Warband 1
Dalamyr, fleetmaster of umbar
12 reavers

Warband 2
The knight of umbar or the dark marahal on fell beast
12 morannon orcs with shield and spear.

Few models, 3-4 might, fell beast and Dalamyr.



A list with more numbers could be like

Warband 1
Corsair captain
12 corsair reavers

Warband 2
The dark marshal on horse
12 orc warriors with spears

Warband 3
Corsair captain
4 corsair reavers
4 black numenoreans

Or change warband 3 to
Black numenorean marshal with shield
7 black numenoreans
And drop 1 orc from warband 2

It will only be competitive if you include "Salt-thralls". That's all you need to know lol

I know they have no might or will, which sucks....but for a multiple attack wound decent fight decent strength model youre paying 20 pts for Bo'Sun in the Corsairs list. Because of the banner included on his profile, hes pretty much only 20 pts.

Id take him for sure.

But then again Im also a guy that likes more models in an army rather than big heros and low models.

If you want caps or bosuns conversions would almost certainly be acceptable as the models are OOP.

Totally worth it.

Thematically, Haradrim Spearmen are better than Orcs since there would actually be Haradrim in Umbar.

Also you don't need a Bo'sun or Banner if you have the Dark Marshal.

@ vandal-well yeah but I messaged him and told him I have a Bo Sun and captain both nib in both metal and finecast.

@gothmog-yeah the suggestion was mostly if he didnt use the dark marshall but it wouldnt hurt to have an army that entirely has re rolls! How annoying would that be to play against haha

9 Castellans of Umbar

31 models, 6 might, fight 5 or more everywhere bar orc spears. Castellans and Dark Marshall cause terror (-1 courage with harbinger rule) No bows so all about getting into combat quick, try and screen advance using defence 6 Castellans in front, with orc spears behind and reavers behind again, ready to spread out into the flanks when getting close. With all those 2 attacks, fight 5, banner re-rolls, the above will be tough to crack. Model axes on the reavers for further cheese and killing power and dadaaaaa

Or if you want to avoid being called cheesy (or too cheesy anyway because of the "salt thralls and dark marshall combo") but still want spear support then try...

Knight of Umbar (a.horse)
9 Castellans of Umbar

Corsair Captain (shield)
10 Corsair Reavers

Corsair Bo'Sun (spear)
8 Corsairs (boarding pikes)

Bo'sun becomes your banner for the corsairs and your spear support now have throwing daggers fight4. I personally would rather take more reavers but it's a decent theme and has a quite a few strengths. However, not a lot of might and quite a soft underbelly. Need to win those fights and kill quick when you do!

Great suggestions! I really like the first list and I'm all about the cheese here (first list like that I have ever made) I may tweak some things but it's a great base list to work on.

Better hope that I don't decide on that one for stockport
