Hello again

I'm considering an Angmar army but was wondering which Ringwraith is better. I may take one or both but I want to know how effective they are on the field. Here's what I understand so far.

The Dwimmerlaik:
No might. 4 more will. One more fate. Sap fortitude is very effective and can quickly drain heroes of their M/W/F points and can be very devastating when you need to call a heroic action. Also I'm not too sure what a "greatsword" does. Is it counted as a two handed weapon?
Stat wise similar to The Tainted.

The Tainted:
One more might. 4 less will. One less fate. Miasmic Presence is a little controversial since it negates your own heroic actions as well as the opponents. Although I've heard Miasmic Presence is very effective if used properly and can cause hell when the opponent needs that heroic action to turn the battle. Seeping Decay is very useful as you have the chance to wound before the fight has started but I think it also affects your own force so you have the potential to damage your own spear support. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
Stat wise is similar to The Dwimmerlaik.

I think The Dwimmerlaik would be a better behind the scenes spell caster but also he would last longer in combat due to his extra fate and will. The downside is his lack of might. The Tainted seems to be a good in battle hero close to fighting who can cast less spells but wreak havoc on potential enemies in base contact and upset the opponents heroic actions. Although he isn't better off since he only has one might and fate.

So who do you think would be better? I plan to have them mounted on horses as well. Also what does a great sword do?

The tainted is considered pretty poor compared to the other wraiths, so my money's on the Dwimmerlaik. Unlike some others I do not consider that a stupid name (it just means ghost in Rohirric language so seems appropriate) but that could be a consideration.

Totally worth it.

There is no real reason to ever tak the tainted over a vanilla wraith, the dwimerlaik on the other hand is such a pain for your opponent, especially when you consider the fact that his sap fortitude has an area of effect double that of the tainted's ability, and no downsides either.
M/W/F are so important in the game, that your opponent will re-consider their tactics the second they even see the dwimmerlaik on the board
his only weakness is the lack of might, but then that's not too much of a problem if you play lords of battle.

Thanks this helps a lot. I think I'm going to choose The Dwimmerlaik. He seems a lot more beneficial than The Tainted. Also his profile says he's armed with a "greatsword" does this just mean he has a two hand weapon and does he use the feint special strike when fighting?

I actually like the Tainted, if you're playing points matches then you're just as likely to come up against low courge evil troops as you are something like elves.
If you have a decent courage force yourself you needn't worry about defecits, but I guess with Angmar that might be a problem.

A greatsword is indeed a two-handed weapon. So I would guess he can choose to strike two-handed and can use the sword special strike.

But aren't special strikes only for hand weapons?

The Dwimmerlaik is much better. Go with him.

I can't think of any reason, if you want only the one named Wraith, that you'd take the Tainted. Pretty much all of the others are more useful. The Tainted would require a rather specialised list, and would need to bee at the right pts level.

The only Wraiths that can be used in a pure Angmar force are the Witchking, The Tainted and The Dwimmerlaik. So I only want one of them otherwise I would have gone with the Dark Marshal.

I'm surprised. I always figured the Tainted would be really good, since he denies heroic moves. Maybe it is different for you all, but in my games heroic move roll offs are one of the most important parts of a game.

EDIT: So on a similar train, what is everyone's opinion of the Undying? I thought he would be neat to combine with Kardush and shamans of all types.

I find the Undying amazing to keep safe your lord points. And he can cast so many spells he really influences a game.
