Looks brilliant! I have yet to start the work on the summit with the Seeing Seat. I need to buy more filler... and the tip about using nails to hold foam together is great, I hadn't thought of that.

Thanks everyone.
I made some progress to day. I added dry wall tape to the edge of the terrain section and added some details. I am going to seal the rock with umber WS pigments so that a slate wash won't turn the plaster as dark. I am going to add a brown base coat to the damp drywall filler to minimize white showing through the flocking .

I will let it dry over night. I will dry brush with a dove gray.

I know I haven't commented much on this thread, but it is really exciting to see all of this coming together! This is a testament to your skill and dedication to terrain-making!

Looking very nice Charlie. Once you get the grass on it will really bring this thing to life.

Thanks

I don't like this blend. It needs some static grass in it. I used a thin layer of school glue for the first coat a lot won't stick. I will pick up some WS cement

As always I'm eager to see the finished product but I'm definitely enjoying seeing the progress unfold

I would like to try and encourage more people to make themed terrain. If I show step by step may be more people will try.

You have encouraged me Charles, I'm now casting my own rocks, waiting for Hirst molds and half way through Weathertop (will update my WIP soon) You are an inspiration Sir.

After seeing Celevue's model I regret I could not make mine larger. I decided on two foot by two foot sections. The Amon Hen section would be much more dramatic on a larger hill with cliffs to the south.
I added the paved walk way because I liked the idea of it. I am going to make some more trees and a special sky back drop.
I have to help the miniature Building Authority with a presentation next weekend so I am going to have to work on that next week. I am looking forward to seeing the pre-production models for the new kick starter.

Looks absolutely brilliant :yay:

Thanks so much for posting the various stages and providing so much info on how to do it. Really helps us novice terrain makers avoid lots of silly mistakes (though I still manage plenty of these).

That's a really nice piece indeed :) And as Gandlaf said, the step by step photos are a great guide!
EDIT: I meant edge67, pardon me... don't know how i got to confuse the two of you!

A very nice terrain piece that has once again hit your very high standard. I agree with the added trees, they will create that extra dimension.

Thanks to a All!

Mistakes are never silly if you learn something. I was going to build a wood shell for this game board. The stacked foam is more expensive material wise. I am no longer able to get about with out my walking stick. The 2' X 2' sections won't look as nice as a full size table but I can manage them when no one is available to help.
I have not been able to work on the table this week. I will post again soon

Damn Charlie, that's a sickener to hear your back is playing you up that much, it saddens me to hear it. I wish you all the hope I can for it to clear. Never mind your truly inspiring work getting finished you are the main thing that matters.

I have been out and about more. I got a chance to visit with Andrew and his son a MBA event at Treefort. I decided I will be able to present a game again this year at Cool Mini or not Expo II. All I did this week was to re-base some E bay orcs.
