Your Rohan village is stunning; my question is though, where are its defenders, and why are the plunderers unopposed??

Quote:
My method is adapted from the tree chapter in this book that I've been able to glance at by the 'look inside' tool on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Terrain-Modelli ... +modelling

I splice in the medium thickness wires at the first branching and then five of the thin wire lengths for every two medium at the next branching. It's surprisingly quick if you do a little every so often.

Thanks, for replying; I'll check the link :).

Haha, it does look as if the Haradrim are doing rather well! Why they're up in Rohan I have no idea!

Unfortunately I've never had any impulsion to collect Rohan and so there are no defenders available! Whilst I have had experience in modelling previously, my Lord of the Rings collection, although longstanding, is rather small. Soon to increase I hope!

Here is my Balin's Tomb. This was built using an adapted method from the fantastic article in the Tomes of Wisdom by TheBucklandBrewer. Thanks so much for the article - some amazing inspiration! Whilst my effort is by no means close to his work of art, I thoroughly enjoyed the process and have something to show for it.

The base is made from mdf, with cardboard walls and pillars/details carved from high density foam. Unfortunately I ran out during the building process and had to use a weaker foam that chips easily. However, providing it isn't thrown around, the boxing keeps the insides pretty well safe I have found.

Anyway, enough words, here it is. As always comments and criticism is welcomed and very helpful.

ImageImage

The texturing on the pillars I think is overdone considering the dwarves were masters of stone. In future I shall keep this to a minimum. Also, the books and doors could use a little refining.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

So there you go, my attempt at Balin's Tomb.

I like the texture of the columns. The books are a nice addition.. The wooden door is also well done. It looks like it is fun to play on 8) More projects please!

Your projects are really nice. As said above it would be really fun to play out the Balin's Tomb scenario on the latest board.

Looking forward to seeing you paint up the figures for it as well as your other painted figures seem really nice.

Cheers

Build it and they will come.
Oh wait, they are coming! Run! Run! (Fool of a Took!)
A very neat rendition of an iconic setting from FotR. As soon as I looked the the door I could hear Boromir saying 'They have a cave troll'.
All we need now is to see a game in progress, with lots of gobbos getting the defenestration treatment from Messrs Legolas and Gimli.

Looks great! I should make this as well one day, looks fun to play on!
The door is maybe a bit too bright.

Lovely work and a ghostly Gimli to boot, the chances of success are good.

Great looking stuff. I really like the Balin's tomb, with all the small details added and still lots of space to play the scenario. If there were one scenario from the Fellowship book that I wish I could play, it would be that one.

Excellent work. It has a really eerie look to it just as it should. The books are a really nice touch.

As promised, here are some more High Elf conversions:

Image

And some more that are currently work in progress, needing greenstuff at the joints:

Image

Having done a numberer of High Elf conversions now, I'm getting increasingly frustrated that there is essentially only a single body pose. In order to rectify this I have been experimenting with repositioning of the cloak. The pictures below show essentially my method, with the figure on the left shown for reference:

Image
(Front of the cloak carved away and scraped smooth)Image
(Extension of the cloak behind from greenstuff)

Whilst these cloaks still need thinning at the edges and smoothing with a knife and liquid greenstuff, I think it adds a nice bit of variation to otherwise annoyingly identical cloaks.

Also, here is my effort at an orc taskmaster, the original being in my opinion too expensive for what it is:

ImageImage

Finally, a question and a request:
1) I have stripped a number of plastic and metal miniatures with dettol (which incidentally I have found is brilliant for this purpose), and I was wondering if, despite rinsing with washing up liquid, the slight residue (and hence strong smell) of dettol left, is going to hinder painting? Any thoughts?
2) I'm desperately trying to find spare parts from the Knights of Rivendell set (spears - with or without arms, shields and banners). I was just going to put this here just in case anyone had some of these lying around and didn't want them. I have also set up a thread for this in the trading forum: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=27999

Thanks for reading and as always comments and criticism welcome.

Love the conversions, the task masters whip looks vicious. Sorry, I can't help with your questions.

My cousin wasn't too pleased with the results when cleaning plastic mini's with dettol.
Haven't seen the results myself though.
Will ask if he really had that much trouble cleaning and repainting them :)

Completely forgot I had commented here!

He said it did the job but that the paint got really sticky and was difficult to get out of the recesses.

If possible, it's better to paint over it, he said.
Especially the sticky residue in the recesses made it difficult to get satisfying results.

Apologies if you have already seen this post on the 'Men of Dale' thread, but I thought since I may begin working on them here, it would be worth having the beginnings here too.

I've been doing some sketches to try and picture how I might convert these into Dalemen (when they're released): https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages. ... -workbench
I have yet to look at the horsemen (I'm thinking of some form of Royal Guard), but I thought I'd ask your opinion on my infantry designs.

I've been starting with the Agincourt miniatures and then modifying them in ways that would hopefully be convertible so as to give a Dale flavour. I have also tried to show a little Dwarvish influence as would be the case from Erebor.
I figured the archer would be suitable for Esgaroth also, although the footman perhaps a little too well armed.

Anyway, there are still a few things I'm not too sure about: the spear/bill top, the helmets (they look perhaps a bit too Spanish here), and of course I have yet to think up a colour scheme. So here they are, please let me know your opinion on the above points or any others, or indeed if you think I've got it completely wrong.

Here's the design for Dale Royal Guard. Again, not so sure about the helmet.

Glorfindel Conversion. Shamelessly copied from here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/286097

The armour plates seem a bit thick but otherwise okay I think.

Nice work on Glorfindel, I'll get around to doing that one day.
I like the Dale Royal Cavalry image too, i'd try and get the spear to be more like 2nd age Numenor, I understand it is hard to draw though.

As for the Dettol stuff, not sure what you have done since, but if it is sticky and smelly, I dont think it would do any damage to the painting, but it indicates there is residue there which might be a little bumpy when you paint over it, i'd give it another wash and make sure to put it in water to soak for at least a few mins when stripping them initially. I had the same issue with some metal stuff - the second time around I didn't have the problem, and the difference was that I let them soak in water where the first time I just rinsed them all off once I was finished.
