Yep picture quality is defintely better Mally. Overcast can be quite tricky too as you get a lot of white reflection from above. Try photographing in the same place but try and shield the model slightly from above (not too much so to darken the mini) this wll help wih the shine.

What DMS said is good, as right now the extra shine is the main detractor. I would also say look into something other than a solid black background as that can mess with your camera's white balance. (or so I've read...) I've heard that a midtone colour, or a nice gradient works well. And Thorin is looking good so far, the eye's and the hair both stand out so far.

Just took a quick late night shot of where I am with the dwarves. Kili and Fili finished. i wanted to keep Kili dark, I think it suits him better.

Only another 8 to go, cracking on...

Filis face has a nice aged look to it which makes a nice change from his youthful film persona.

Cheers mate, Im glad you noticed. I have been heading down that line for most of the dwarves.
I continue to crank them out and now have Nori, Bifur and Gloin to join the throng.Image

I have been spending about 3 hours on each, and for the time spent I'm not too upset. It does now mean I'm down to 5 dwarves and then i shall start on some scenery.
There is maybe half a chance I could still make my mental deadline of all the dwarves finished by the end of the month.
I must admit they are starting to become a tad tedious and I long for something I can spend some time over.

Awesome Bifur! I really like how the colours turned out. Personally I really hate painting yellow, it always comes out looking artificial
The others look good as well :)

Thanks guys.
Paul - one way or another it will be finished.
Baardeend. - the yellow you see on Bifur is an old GW colour Vomit Brown. All the dwarves have so many variants of brown that I am trying to make each one different. At least as best as I can as some of the colours are so similar you may not tell them apart on a photo.

Dwarves all done.
Now the group shot, I've left about a dozen goblins for some quick conversions
Image
Now for some scenery and getting this diorama in shape.

Shaping up very nicely Mally, can't wait to see the diorama as yours always bring the miniatures to life.

That is one of the nicest compliments I have had about my Diorama's, thank you.
As someone who concentrates on the hobby side only, my aim is setting a scene, telling a story and to have that interaction with the figures. Bringing a scene to life is what I aim for and for this to be recognised is praise indeed.
I hope this latest piece will be no exception, though it will take some planning to get 50+ figures working with each other.

More work done, the throne is finished as is the first section of the base. I have gone about throwing different colours in to stop it looking so uniform like the box art suggests.Image
A close up of the throne before it was attached.Image
And nothing like a big pile of poo
Image
Now for some proper work on the base and to get this thing taking shape.

Here we are then,my entry for the diorama challenge.
My idea has been inspired by my wife who wanted a bridge and this is what I came up with. It is on the large side 75x20cm with 55 painted figures in place.
Apologies for the amount of photos but they are needed.
The overall view
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Here is the stone tower. what hasn't really shown up is the water I have added that is coming out of the hole in the top centre, just a dribble though, not a torrent.ImageImageImage

Well there you go, hope you like it.

hope we like it? of course we do!

The diorama is very unique and I can tell you put a lot of hours into this task. The paint jobs on each individual piece is top class as well.

If I were to make one criticism, and this is stretching it, the only thing that seemed "off" was the poses of the dead goblins. This is obviously very hard to alter their "dead" poses. Other than that, gorgeous work.

Now that is an eye opener, ain't no mistake ;)

I really like the dynamic flow of the piece, your eye keeps moving from one area to another and I love the dangling goblin.
