First off a disclaimer: Any links I've posted here showing pictures of White Dwarf are merely images that I, as a hobbyist, have found browsing the internet. If any readers should have any concern with these links please contact the person who's website it is hosted on. I have no intention of posting any photos of White Dwarf or breaching any agreements or IP of Games Workshop.

Secondly, I have White Dwarf available to you lovely one-ringers over at my site available to pre-order http://www.greendragongames.co.uk/white-dwarf-397.html
January's White Dwarf is released 5th Jan, all of our pre-orders should be dispatched on 4th Jan to reach you either 5th or 6th (7th if you live somewhere really awkward). Dispatch via Royal Mail.

Now onto the juicy hobbyist bits, a round up of all the January rumors. YES, there WILL be Hobbit releases sometime in January. This link here shows us that Jan is mainly Dark Angels focused, good news for 40k players
http://screwedupdice.blogspot.co.uk/201 ... nuary.html
However if you look toward the top photo you can see there is a box of what looks like 2 eagles being released, new eagles poses - nice! Also interesting to see that the front cover is going with "The Hobbit" rather than "Lord of the Rings" going forward.

The following quote is taken from this thread and seems to be a general rumor among interneters:
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthrea ... ry-Release
Quote:
Coming to a store near you...

Eagles (2 in a box) £30
Gwahir £25
Bilbo, gollum and a boat £20
Fell wargs £18

From White Dwarf.

Looks like the second photo down that we can see the edge of is Gwahir's wing. Bilbo, Gollum and Boat could be this rumored "riddles in the dark" set and fell wargs WITHOUT riders! Everyone has been waiting for these it seems!

Very exciting - I look forward to taking a read.

Cool! Unless this issue is SBG heavy like the last one I'll be skipping it. Not paying $ 10 for 40 K fan wank

I wonder what this "boat" is supposed to be... I hope some plastic scenery.

The boat is Gollum's little raft-thing (can't remember the technical name they used) that he paddles about on. It is a separate model on its own base. I doubt I'll be picking that pack up due to the high cost.

The boat, or 'coracle' is FineCast too. I had initially been excited about this set, but after taking a long look at the pictures I think I'll pass on it. For the moment I'm quite happy to use Emyn Muil Gollum and EFGT Bilbo for my Riddles in the Dark scenes.

As for the rest of the releases, I've been tinkering with the idea of starting Dark Angels. £30 for the codex though? :-o

Wow £30 for a Codex! If they ever produce a source book for The Hobbit i wonder it that will be the same price.

Does anyone know if any Source books are planned/rumoured?

Just to add that this White Dwarf comes with a huge HOBBIT/LOTR two sided poster showing all the main figures similar to the 40k one from last month. Next White Dwarf now confirmed for Jan 26th release date, all new releases go live late tonight.

So that's where all the Hobbit content went. Only some ads for eagles and wargs in the digital issue. Very disappointing. Worse thing is that when I subscribed last week it downloaded another copy of the December issue onto my ipad and started my subscription from December even though I had already bought that one. If you are a 40k fan though January is your month.

I am a little disappointed, but I did enjoy the poster - wish they'd do at least some showcase or kitbash on LOTR though...

The Golden Demon feature is quite good, and I love the poster. But ultimately this is an issue for the 40k crowd.

No way! I hardly ever buy white dwarf unless it has LOTR stuff, this month I pre ordered it from GD! Wish I hadn't bothered! Makes me hate WD even more...

Poster, detail on the new releases and there is some other stuff near the back - a 16 page Golden Demon spread and there are a few amazing LOTR minis in there, shame that as usual Games Workshop seem to have photoshopped them.

In other news my site is running Free U.K Shipping SURPRISE SPLASH CODE - Free U.K Shipping until Sunday 6th Jan at 11pm, use code JAN3-SLASH-DXBZKDUI

It amazes me a major release of The Hobbit and WD gives it little coverage! What a lost marketing opportunity. I know they care about IP but 40K has had the majority of coverage the last 12 months.

When SBG was launched years ago with TFOTR film WD covers were always featuring LOTR with loads of articles, i still have them.

Overall it such a shame, it will not encourage new players who got EFGT for Christmas.

The GW Newsletter e-mail sent out today doesn't even mention releases outside of the Dark Angels line.

Any hobbyist that plays only a single system, regardless of which, doesn't get much out of WD for 2 out of 3 issues, so it seems. In other words, any money saved by getting a subscription is completely negated by the uselessness of the majority of the contents.

I like looking at nicely painted and converted miniatures as much as the next guy, but I consider it an add-on or bonus. It shouldn't be the sole reason for getting the current issue, and I won't. A poster is cute, but it displays pictures most of us know by heart, simply due to their age. The 40K poster from last month provided me with a fun look at minis I hadn't seen most of.

You're quite right, and I have a sneaky feeling that the goblin town "battle report" (if you can call it that cos it was so short) will be the last we'll see 'til next box set. Who knows, but with more pages they could have at least vary the content a little.

Looked at it in store today, the paint guides for SBG are horrible, on par with the old hardback guide to Haradrim and Gondorians, for $ 10 everything should look professional

Dammit!!! I wished I'd known about the poster for January. I would have skipped the digital issue and bought the physical one.
