I find myself breathing both a sigh of relief and despair at this news.

Folks at Games Workshop have dropped us a note to let us know that the list of miniatures that popped-up on pastebin a few weeks ago is sadly not a real one. They tell us that the list of miniatures is a hoax, albeit a very elaborate and well-researched one.

sounds like some back pedaling going on at GW to me :!:
The photos of the toys are cool so check out the link :!:

There is an all-too brief shot of what appears to be mounted Elves departing Rivendell in one of the blogs. Number 13 perhaps?

This was already posted, sucks I was excited for what the list promised. Very elaborate and well done, I'll give the person credit.

I wonder if it was a 'hoax' or a honey pot. Maybe they were trying to expose a leak in the company before the real information is circulated much and someone (or more than one) is now looking at a bad end to their year. Before the fingers of paranoia are pointed my way (I'm used to it, btw) I've seen this done before.

It could have also been to see what the general response to some of their ideas is.

It would be nice if The One Ring had released the actual letter that GW sent them regarding the list. Wording like "not official" or "unofficial" is a lot different than "hoax" or "fake" and could give strong indicators as to whether this was an in-house WIP release schedule that is now outdated, or a fan-made forgery that is just completely false. I'm reminded of the "leak" of the 6th ed 40K rulebook earlier this year though, which did turn out to be a complete fake done by a gaming club.

Sorry, when I found the information that this was a hoax/fake/unofficial list, I just copied what I saw. On close inspection, it look like your right. Perhaps GW is trying to dig itself out of something of a hole by leaving the 'not official' comment, which is, the more I think about it, slightly ambiguous.

Are you Demosthenes over on The One Ring.net? I don't understand why you're apologizing :)

From the linked article from tOR.net, in my personal opinion, the wording used makes it seem that the list is fake and has no association with GW. I'm assuming this wording would come from the wording from the letter by GW. I don't know if I'm making any sense...It would have been nice for The One Ring.net to have released the actual letter from Games Workshop, so we could see the exact wording that GW used to describe the list. Words like "unofficial" would imply that GW at one point had something to do with the released list. However, the words found in the article are "fake" and "hoax," suggesting that GW had nothing to ever do with the list. In my opinion then, based on the words used in the article, this list has no association with the miniatures we will actually see for The Hobbit.

Rumpelstiltskin is your name :!:
"It is a hoax, albeit a very elaborate and well-researched one stamped the little man!"

Why do you think they chose exactly these words :!: Some one guessed extremely well or some one leaked some in house working list. This is a rumor after all. I would be surprised if it ever matched an official list. I would not discount it because some one at GW said it was a very elaborate and well-researched hoax.

Well, what a suprose, the 'leaked list' was a fake [sarcasm]. I personally did not expect it to be anything other than that. I should start calling myself Dolorous Cal or something.

Anyway, how much of the items on the list do you guys think will actually be released? I would say about half of it would be including many of the Dwarves inc. the heroes and boar-riders, and Orcs and wargs(wolves), and that elven cavalry. Anyone else? [If it hasn't already been asked that is]

I agree, I think that a lot of the stuff is highly likely anyway, even if not in those exact sets or names. I just hope that boar-riders are not going to make an appearance :o
