That is a great way to get a better impression of the sheer size of the beast.

The militia looks interesting :)They remind me of Taleworlds Mount and blade: warband recruits :P

Wow, Smaug went out of stock in a blink of an eye! was ready to take him aswell but oh well, lets wait :)
I am disappointed with the militia sculpts, as a fun of laketown/dale atleast.
the archers are very nice but the rest are actualy fishermen with hooks....
Expected them more like, scrap/poorly armored civilians (something closer to the militia archers) not actual fishermen.
Lets see next release.

Well one nice thing, from the youtube video and various angles posted on GW's site, is that it looks to me as though no part of Smaug himself is molded onto the scenic base, so while you could mount him on that for display purposes, if you wanted him for gaming purposes you could probably put together your own base of a rock promontory or something that would be a little more generic, and suitable for a standard battlefield. If you were crafty enough, I'm sure you could even model him in such a way that he can be moved between the two bases, one for display and one for gaming.

I like the rag-tag look of the Laketown militia. While I understand that plastic would be preferable for army-building purposes, I can't honestly say that I'm surprised they're in resin. Are we expecting a more organized army to be present at the actual Battle of Five Armies, or is this pretty much it for Laketown's forces?

Which makes it about 3cm longer than the mumak's and almost 1cm narrower. Hmm, I guess I was expecting it to be bigger, but looking it from a positive perspective the size is idealy "gameable"...

edit: Actually, 9.2" converts to 23.1cm making it 5cm longer. I presume you were confused by the model's height (8.4" / 21.4cm)

I will quote Bilbo and say that he is truly 'stupendous', I have nothing else to add.

The archers' poses are quite nice and could possibly pass as ruffians or maybe Dunedain–the rest are nothing special. Again: it's a shame they are not plastic.

Lovely model but steep steep steep. I'll settle for geene, but will be looking forward to members' finish paint jobs of this Smaug.
