Looking forward to that model ('miniature' doesn't cut it anymore, I suspect) - seeing what the sculptor(s) has/have done with it, seeing how some of the amazing painters out there will make it look, seeing what rules it will get, seeing how big it will be.. but I won't buy it. Then again, I've known that since the movie version lost two legs, and there are dozens of great dragon sculpts out there to potentially take his place. Just like the denizens of Goblin Town in the film don't match that which I imagined from reading the books, neither will Smaug - but as said, that doesn't reduce my anticipation much. The range would not be complete without the main villain, and I'm glad (although not at all surprised) to see it is nearly being released.

I'm very excited GW is making Smaug. Doesn't mean I am blindly buying it, though. At this price, it's going to have to be spectacular for me to lay out that kind of cash for something that likely won't be of much use in games.

That said, I'm expecting it to be the best kit (by far) they have ever produced, making it hard to resist a purchase. Given you could buy 5 Mumak kits for the same price, it needs to be amazing. Anything short of that won't cut it.

I echo BillFerny333. I won't be buying the model, because of price and space reasons, but I have been looking forward to the release for a year. I just want GW to show they care enough. Y'all need to cop on.

And same here. I think it's really cool we'll be seeing a Smaug figure, but it's none for me.

But since we are talking about quite a price, I can understand people wanting the model to be utterly perfect for their tastes if they decide to buy it. Spending $490 is a lot to spend on something you're not 200% happy with. For the people anticipating Smaug, I really hope he lives up to their expectations.

It's not a model I'll see myself buying though. A. the price is way too much for my budget, I can never justify that even if I wanted. (and there are other things in that price range, WETA stuff to think off, I would rather buy if I had the money). B. I don't think I care enough for Smaug to have a model of him anyway. C. minor thing but a figure of that price of magnitude deserves a more than decent paint job in my eyes and painting it myself would feel I would ruin the whole thing.

I'm so excited to see Smaug being released! I won't be buying simply because if I bought everything that looked awesome I wouldn't have any money left. I absolutely love the Balrog but I didn't buy it simply because it didn't fit into my armies. There are so many minies by GW I want to buy but I have to show some self restraint otherwise I will have no more space left in my flat. Really looking forward to this!

I have bee awaiting for several years the moment we get a worthy Dragon.

I will not be getting it because of the price, but also because the PJ Smaug is wyvern and there lies my greatest disappointment.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade.

Personally I am mostly looking forward to the rules so I may in turn attempt to sculpt my very own Smaug, you know one with 4 legs like in the book ;) .
I must admit I have probably been looking forward to the rules way more than the model for the last couple of years.

In other words for the first time in about 7 years I am really anticipating the release of the White dwarf!!!

I'll wait to see better pics, but at this point I'm a little disappointed. It could be the pic, but the head looks very odd to me.

Will wait for better pics, but the Geene Models Dragon looks better to me at this point. The base looks sweet.

"cast in resin..."

Hopes, dreams, regrets.

Damn.

EDIT:

And after all of 30 seconds contemplation, I don't care. I'll still get it.

I'm genuinely surprised he's not plastic. And holy cow that is one sexy model. How long from head to tail do you think that is?

My guess is that if the tail continues straight from where the pic cuts it off that he'll be approx 2ft long.

I'm rather enjoying comparing him to my cat.

Thanks for the Photo 8)

I am looking forward to see it painted well.
I am not going to get it. It is not that I can not spend the money. I do not think the value is there.

did some quick measuring. the Bilbo model from Goblin Town is about an inch tall. the Bilbo in the picture is about a half inch tall (rounding up). Smaug in the picture (from what we can see through th distortion from the picture of a picture) is about 7 and a half inches long. which means when we double to scale it, its 15 inches long. tale will add a bit, and this is only a close estimate because of distortion. but still. 15 inches isnt super exciting for the body.

buying it anyway because Smaug.

I am going to repair the tail and repaint this one. I made a base to match the mumakill

I really like the GW sculpt. But at that price the knock off looks awful tempting
