Why is it that the old mounted Faramir, dressed in armor similar to that of the Knights of Gondor, would not be used for this formation?

I can't see any reason you couldn't do so. Including in any GW tournament. It's a Mounted Faramir miniature, after all, and also fits both the film and the existing KOMT models more then the new one.

One thing that's interesting about the Denethor's Guard one is that if Boromir is within 12 inches of Denethor, Denethor's Broken Mind rule (or whatever it's called, my WotR book is in the car) is ignored.

It looks very interesting! It will add a lot more individuality to the different forces of Middle-earth. Can't wait! :)

It is a shame that the book did not have an FAQ. It is good to see that some hosts help fix points problems. The angmar spirit host is much better than just taking spirits. However, some other hosts are just as broken as the rest of the rules. The mumak one is rough. Lots of mumaks and it lowers the enemy's courage. Theoden's host is also really nice, as is the Swan Knight one. Even the flying Nazgul one looks quite good. Then there are the hosts that are nearly impossible to field, like the all metal ones.

Some of the fortunes are also really nice. The dwarves have one that gives them +1 to wound.

Gonna wait a bit before ordering. I want to find out just how good the Easterling battlehost is before investing in this book.
But it does look promising.

- Burhdur's warband (with everything ambushing, and units from the misty mountains rolled in and not counting against the allies allowance)

This looks rather useful, considering the peculiarities of the way the War of the Ring lists were taken vis a vis the "fluff" of The Ruin of Arnor which had Burhdur's army containing hill trolls and so forth.

Looks like my 2010/2011 painting plan will be Burhdur's battle host and a Rivendell (with Dwarf and/or Ranger allies) host to fight him :)

Yep, I held and read the book. It was slightly dissapointing, I'll admit, but it was still "awesome". :D

I got to read it on Saturday at GW Guildford. I liked the new fates, especially Stolen Mithril Coat.

I was hoping there'd be a Fortune for Gondor that boosted a formation's defence. I could then use it on the Grey Company, and eliminate their ony weakness...
