Post subject:  Horse Painting Article

Just found a new article on the GW site on painting horses:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=14700022

Lots of different methods to paint them and the different markings they have etc. Definately worth a look! :)

nice article, but i don't like the human style eyes the horse have been painted with. From what I have seen, most horse eyes seem virtually black, perhaps with a small white crescent at the top corner of the eye (towards its ear)

It is an article I wrote for the Last Alliance before the site went down. It details how I painted 40+ horses to match the colour distribution of the Rohirrim in the film.

May I recommend this article be submitted on OR? It looks brilliant, and I can say I'd be pleased to have it on this forum.

I second Ingold's recommendation, it is a very good article, and in my view would make a wonderful addition to the library. :)

Thanks guys,
I am writing Part 2 right now. The TLA accepted Part 1 of my article but but the site crashed before it was posted. I guess if the TLA doesn't return I'll offer them to OR.

Great article, mate I think it would be a welcome edition here. I have maiden of dark times horse painting article that you referred to in yours. Would you like it?

Have to say not only is that a nicely written article but it's also different from what you usually see and the concept is a very nice one and the painting is great too. Good work UE 8)

Wow, both Uruk Engineer's and Games Workshops articles are really very good. :) Uruk engineer, please try and put the article(s) up, so far its looking very good. How did you have the patience to paint so many horses? On a different note, King Elessar the games workshop article is a great find. Im really thinking about painting my next batch of horses - whatever they may be using that article!

Cheers :)

Thank you for your comments. This raises an interesting issue. Maiden of Dark Times wrote a great article for TLA. I used her advice on how to paint bays and chestnuts. It is akey referemce for me.

I too have her article. I am happy to offer my articles to the illustrious guardians of standards at OR but am not sure what to do with MoDT's article.

Would it be appropriate to ask OR to "own" MoDT's article?...and make it available to others? Does MoDT need to offer it? Does Hithero simply need to give OR a "nod".

What is the form?..in effect who now "owns" it?

I neither have no power to give any nod of this nor do I have a huge amount of knowledge in this matter, however...

Whilst if it were me that wrote the article and it was posted without my consent on another website, I would be quite chuffed but at the same time find it a little rude. To be honest, I don't know if TLA had anything saying 'Anything posted here is rightfully ours' and if it did then I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply now as it's down.

I think it'd be much better off and safer simply trying somehow to get in contact with the article writer and asking for if it's ok for their consent, or even better, for them to do it themselves.

But like I said, I'm no expert in this case.

UE, your article is fantastic and one of the best I've seen for taking on an army at once quickly and with variety. I have about 50 Riders of Rohan that I hope to dive into in the spring and this was one of the biggest blocks to me wanting to take them on. You approached it the same method I was trying (design some basic colors in ratio to the general film appearances and then add detailing variety via mane, head and legs) but did it much faster and probably better than I. At least I know now I was on the right track!

When Rohan is behind me and I start on my Harad ( only 26 horses so far there! ) I'll use a similar method but look more to the colors common to Mid-Eastern lands.
