http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/08 ... e-in-book/ Many people have been wondering how Thranduil will look in the movie (especially because it will neccessitate a new mini). Well, there it is (in the link of course). IMO, he looks a bit too (to put it politely) fruity. Yes, he is a king, but the amount of rings is a little excessive (maybe he's jealous of Galadriel or something) and the bright and shiny (gold? silver?) clothing looks a little out of place in the woods of Mirkwood. I really don't know how I feel about this yet, but when the movie comes out, I'll know. Considering it IS PJ, I think it might work. |

I can see where they're going with his crown, but it seems a little off to me. |

The spikes are too long. His "dress" seems more off to me than the crown. |

wow! erm... im not quite sure what to think of him. his suit looks like it belongs on 'strictly come dancing on ice' and why are his eyebrows a different colour to his hair??? Quote: ...but the amount of rings is a little excessive... my thoughts exactly, it looks a bit like he's wearing a shiny rock on his finger its so big. the actor looks like a pretty good thranduil though, just not sure about what he's wearing . |

Lol, he's Legolas' father, and a King. He's bound to be exquisite. I can deal with his robes. Though he's channeling Bowie in Labyrinth. |

Legolas wasn't excusite, and there's a difference between looking royal and looking like an ice skater, as Sid pointed out. |

Y'all are just threatened by his graceful feminine side. |

You're too young for me to go off about the binary and other gender theory, so I'll leave it at not everything has to be black and white. |

There's a difference between graceful and being a figure skater. A BIG difference. Men can be graceful while still being masculine. |

There totally is. But Thranduil looks rock n roll. Which is totally manly. I bet he drives monster trucks too. *rolls eyes* |

@Draugluin - I have deleted your last comment as it was offensive and completely unacceptable!!! Having been an active member of the One Ring for quite some time now you should know better. Tone it down guys or I will lock the thread. Nothing wrong with being a graceful man - I myself am quite graceful ( dis - graceful) |

SidTheSloth wrote: why are his eyebrows a different colour to his hair??? Legolas (Orlando Bloom) had blond hair with Brown eyelashes...its continuity though they are a bit too bushy for my taste. Also for the justification of the robes, in The Hobbit Thranduil (Lord of the Wood Elves) was a covetous and perhaps even a bit of a hoarding man for treasure. Not ideal presentation, but I can live with it. A lot better than Thorin in my book at least. |

im very sorry if i annoyed or offended anyone anyway back to the subject: this isnt exactly how i imagined him in the book, it just looks too much like PJ's elves and not JRR's ones. Quote: IsleStaggerHolme said: A lot better than Thorin in my book at least. i agree |

At least he doesn't have an axe head sticking out of his hair. If his 'dress' as some are calling it is a long mail cloak then that would be very cool. It reminds me a bit of how Frodo's Mithril shirt looked from a distance. Even if it was not mail garb remember how Legolas was dressed during the quiet evening they spent in Lothlorien, as well as several other Elf characters portrayed with long robes. And he does have a strong expression on his face...ready to kick some Orc [word deleted]. I'd love to see more of his sword as well as the oak staff they have designed for him. I'm quite sure he will be a highly effective warrior in the film. And considering that GW has upgraded his magical powers slightly with the new release they may even have an inside scoop on him being portrayed with more power as well. At least he doesn't look like the Bass/Rankin version. And of course, as long as he doesn't break into song... "This reminds me of the Ring" "What Ring?" "The Ring of Power" "What power?" "The power of VOODOO!" Sorry...I absolutely love Labyrinth but now that someone put the Bowie image in my mind it's going to stick for a while. |

I think he looks great. Thranduil WAS portrayed as loving treasure and trinkets more than most Elves, so the "glam rock" look is kind of fitting. The ice skater thing will dissipate the moment you see him run an Orc through with that sword! |

If that's a mail shirt, then that changes everything. However, it doesn't look like it. To me, it looks like a heavily bedazzled dress. How I would have pictured him: Wearing a loose green robe (with gold trim of course) with his crown, a large necklace (kind of to copy the Nauglimir, I think I spelled it right) and a few rings like the non-jeweled ones he has in the picture. |

I was going to remind everyone of Bass/Rankin when I saw your post. You made my day with the power of VOODOO Dance Magic Dance! |

I like GW's approach to the Thranduil model, released for the necromancer expansion, A LOT more! I really don't like the way PJ is going with some of the characters/creatures... |
