So, after seeing the film in both 2d at 24fps, and 3d in 48 fps (2d in 24fps is much much better btw) i'm pretty stoked for the next two. This thread, as you can guess, is where we can post all the predictions we have for how upcoming characters will be represented by both PJ and GW. What i am really hoping for is for Dain and Thorin to both get their kills on Bolg or Azog, i really liked how Dain came across as this goblin killing machine in the books, but i also REALLY like the sense of Throin having an arch nemesis in Azog, so Beorn can step aside imo and let the dwarves avenge their kings. I also loved how PJ made Thranduil come across as a really unlikeable character, so im hoping he will continue that and (hopefully) make it so Bilbo will not spend the entire battle with Thranduil/knocked out. Also, i know Glorfindel should have been in lotr, but i would love to see him in a flashback owning the witch king because let's face it, Glorf is the most bad-ass character in middle earth. When Elrond was talking about how Orcist and Glamdring were built by the great elves of old, well Glorf is those elves, and needs to be immortalized on film. Anyway, onto what i am expecting in terms of profiles: Dain: Identical to our current Dain but with 1 less defence, 1 more fight value, and no more 'venerable' rule. Thranduil: Well, as we saw in Radagast, the good side are getting some funky mounts in the hobbit sbg, hopefully his elk will be a total tank. What are your guys predictions, also, merry chrimbo! |

Actually that bugged me a bit as I never pictured him as evil as the film adaptations seem to portray. Click to: Show I'm wondering if the wood elves profiles will be Galadhrim without shields and the choice of wood elf spears in their place. So I'm thinking Armor for a +1 to defense, the choice of Wood Elf Spear, Elven Blade, or Bow; Elven cloaks, and banner. Maybe Throwing Weapons. |

@King Ondoher Sorry for the spoiler! I've changed the title to include a warning now! @Curufinwë Your points are all valid but why did he even have his army if he didn't want to help? Also my real motivation for not liking Thranduil is that A: he is hoity toity elf scum, and B:He (and elves in general) were very overpowered in the battle for middle earth games so i hold a little resentment for him beating me so often! |

SPOILER ALERT! Just my thoughts on Thranduil. I dont think he is ment to be unlikeable, he is just a king wanting to do the best for his people. He rode out with an army but relised the battle could not be won so why waste the immortal lives of his kin? And how can you not like someone who rides an elk, and wears an antler horn crown thingy, thats just super bad ass!! Just my thoughts. |

I find the idea a little odd, and rather reminiscent of Warhammer Fantasy Wood Elves... Its a good thing that you added the warning though as it is a spoiler. Thranduil's actor Lee Pace said that he had to film some stunts. I'm hoping that Legolas and his daddy will both get some fight scenes during the Battle of Five Armies. (Think Legolas vs Mumak, but with two badass elves.) |

The similarities to WHF don't end there Spoler alert: Billy Connely mentioned having a mohawk, tattoos and riding a boar into battle as king Dain Ironfoot in the 3rd film...and that brings slayer dwarfs to mind. |

Please, please NOOOOOOO! I thought we'd seen the last of Dwarf Boar Riders when that list of miniatures turned out to be fake, please don't they'll get into the movie. |

I am (barely) fine with the Elk for Tranduil, but if I see boar or elk cavalry, I am gonna sue PJ for sure. |

Well, in one of the production videos, they show what appears to be a giant animatronic, rideable boar, so I wouldn't get too hopeful |

Quote: Because its exactly like Warhammer Fantasy, thats why. That argument makes no sense, PJ had no influence from Warhammer Fantasy whatsoever, if anything Warhammer Fantasy is influenced by Tolkien (as most modern fantasies are) |

Curufinwë wrote: Actually that bugged me a bit as I never pictured him as evil as the film adaptations seem to portray. [spoiler]I'm not sure what Thorin wanted him to do about Smaug invading Erebor. If I was in his position (as they show in the movie mind you) I wouldn't throw my men's lives away on an entrenched dragon inside those confines either. Any known path would have the men charging straight into the dragons gullet and fire, thus it would have been suicide. By the time the Elves seemed to have arrived the hold had pretty much fallen with the people fleeing. I don't think he's necessarily evil, just indifferent and (as Suicidalmarsbar said) unlikable. Of course there's nothing he could have done, but from the Dwarves' perspective, seeing him just sit there and then cooly ride away is pretty rough. Least he could have done was offer shelter while they plan where to go. I think it did a better job of streamlining the Elf/Dwarf rift than flashbacks to Dwarves sacking Menegroth would have. |

Then if they are not influenced by the other, how is the fact that the Hobbit has elves on stags a negative thing? I didn't say that either. You've completely missed my point yet again. I said nothing influence one way or the other (it goes without saying, GW takes its cue from PJ/Tolkien). I don't much like Warhammer Fantasy's particular brand of cartoonish, over the top fantasy with monsters a dime a dozen, and any creature you can imagine being used as mounts by some other (humanoid) creature (dragons, undead dragons, Cold One dino lizards, pterodactyl like flying dinosaurs, triceratops like dinosaurs, mammoths, rhino like creatures, eagles, half-lion-half-eagle griffons, pregasus winged horses, undead scorpions/horses/horse drawn chariots,Stags, Orc Squigs, Slaanesh serpent creatures, Nurgle snails, giant spiders, giant spiders the size of a house). You name it, if it has a back something else probably rides it. I much prefer the more nuanced, subtle and ultimately believable world presented by Tolkien. Things like stags being ridden as mounts as though they were horses bred and trained to be ridden blur the differences between Tolkien's version of fantasy and GW's version and that is something that I am uncomfortable with. Things like these stag mounts and Radagasts Rabbit drawn sled (even if they were Rhosgobel rabbits) will strech my dispension of disbelief to breaking point. |

Well said I hope we are spared any further cartoonification by PJ and co... |

"In Sweden there was a debate in the late 18th century about the national value of using the moose as a domestic animal. Among other things, the moose was proposed to be used in postal distribution, and there was a suggestion to develop a moose-mounted cavalry." Quoted from wikipedia. So it isn't that far-fetched. |
