If this is old news please lock. Did everyone else know that the third Hobbit film is due to be released on July 18th 2014, rather than in December? Also apparently the names of the two films have been swapped. Part 2 is now called 'The Desolation of Smaug', with part 3 being, 'An Unexpected Journey'. Again, apologies if everyone knew this, might just be me. Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/t ... ase-367258 |

yeah, when it was announced it was 3 films, they said it was gonna be july. I'm all for it, means we dont have to wait 2 years for the next 2 films. and that equals more models for us |

I didn't realise this until just a few days ago when someone mentioned it to me. At first I was skeptical as in my mind I was convinced they were releasing them every December, but obviously I was wrong. What does this mean for the models though? The shorter release periods means a limited period to get the 'big' models from film two out before film three. Also, in terms of the rulebook fears of a big £50 manual every year, that seems a lot less likely now. Would GW really release another in a years time and then follow it up with yet another only six months later? I personally doubt it. |

I'll disbelieve it when I don't see it. |

Good point Knighty, I'm really interested to see how GW handles this; its almost forcing them to pull their finger out, and I honestly think they'll only do 2 rulebooks. Lets just hope time period doesn't affect the quality of the sculpting. |

They announced film 2 would be called desolation of smaug and film 3 there and back again at the same time they announced they were making 3 films, (and not long before annnouncing the dates.) |

Yes, both points were from the same source. I already said its old news, but its clearly not known by everyone, especially the release date, hence my reason for posting originally. |

The release dates have been available on wikipedia for some time now, along with a lot of other stuff if peoople bothered to look. As of the first film it hasbeen completely accurate. |

Wikipedia has equivalent accuracy to the Encyclopaedia Britannica - and gets updated more :p But, indeed, I strongly suspect we'll not see three big rule books, but two. As to when, I am less certain. Before film 2? Film 3? They have had a "big bang" release for every film thus far. Boxed sets for Fellowship, Towers and Return. This was followed in 2005, a year after the films were done, with "the one rulebook" and then "Mines of Moria" The first Hobbit movie has seen an even bigger bang release: Escape from Goblin Town, a new "One Rulebook" and a number of miniature releases. The problem is that new The One Rulebook just supports the first few waves of Hobbit figures - and includes a lot of padding (as did the old one, too). So what's the Big Bang release for the next Hobbit films? Likely two more boxed sets and one hardcover rulebook. On reflection, I bet they'll release the second rulebook for the third movie after the third film is released. However, that still leaves us with the hurdle of the rules/stats for future release waves. Journeybooks? Maybe? |

I've seen rumours that GW intend to go back to War of the Ring for the Battle of the Five Armies which, to me, sounds feasible. In which case I would expect perhaps a sourcebook or something for the second film's stats and a new rulebook for the third movie. |

I figure that we'll get a Sourcebook in a couple months for this movie, then we'll get a sourcebook for the second and third, with a possible rebranding of the current rulebook with each movie (as in just changing the title and the profiles, but not the rules themselves). Then after the 3rd movie has come out and after the hobby has died down (like a year or so after the 3rd movie) I can see them releasing a new rulebook and new sourcebooks for all of the profiles. |

I was looking forward to seeing it in the summer and only having to wait 6 months between movies 2 & 3. Ohwell, more time for GW releases I guess |

Is this bad news? I'd rather have them a year apart like the LotR trilogy. More time for GW model releases! Oh, and I don't think GW will feel guilty about doing anything, especially relasing three $100 rulebooks. I'm holding out hope that we get a journey book/source book for film one sometime in the next six months. |

I prefer waiting a year between each film. 6 months makes it a bit cheap, like the last 2 matrix films. |
