New middle earth battle companies book about to go on pre-order via Warhammer community. No idea if it will be released via forge world or Gw - any more information anyone?

Confirmed to be through Games Workshop, like the There and Back Again book (which means cheaper free postage and the ability to have it sent to stores).

I am really interested to see how this goes - is this the first book they've done since There And Back Again for SBG?

Nice to see the 'Lord of the Rings' logo on the cover, a reminder of better times. :,)

I want to pre-order Battle Companies from GW but I need to add 25$ more to qualify for free shipping. I want to be able to supplement the battle companies that I'll be building but I can't decide what to purchase! I have Uruks, Warriors of Rohan, Minas Tirith, Goblins, and the Fellowship. I think I'd like to build Isengard, Rohan, or the Fellowship... What do you guys think?

The Fellowship won't be a Battle Company, those are all about basic troops becoming heroes (although you could use use a Legolas mini to lead a wood elf company, or the hobbits as the leaders for a Shire warband). Rohan is likely to be good fun, plenty of room for promotions (warriors become Riders of Rohan, Royal Guard, one day perhaps Sons of Eorl) and some nice hero figures to potentially use as your company's leaders. Isengard should have a decent selection as well.

Okay good to know I am right to be looking for Rohan/Isengard upgrades. I'll probably go for the Rohan commander set, riders, or Isengard commander set.

Currently:

Rohan:
24 Warriors

Isengard:
13 Uruk Scouts
Lurtz
Grima

Edit: What would the upgrades to Isengard be? What would scouts upgrade to?

It's bound to be something along the lines of Scouts > Warriors > Berserkers, where they may fit in Mauhur's Marauders and Ferals in some fashion (don't think those existed in the original release). The current fan supplement gives the player a choice to have a promoted scout turn into either a Marauder or a Warrior; the Marauders can then become Ferals while Warriors become Berserkers. Given that there are no models for Marauders, I can imagine those being left out - the progression might simply be Scout > Warrior > Feral > Berserker. Worth noting figures will only have a chance to be promoted after a game or two typically (depending on how well they do), and then roll a D6 to either not promote (roll of 1-3), be promoted (4-5) or become a hero (6), the latter of which still using the same model. In other words, Berserkers are likely some way off - especially since not all members of the company will survive that long!

Good to know! I remembered I have an Uruk Captain and Banner Bearer that could be warriors. I think I may go for Rohan Royal Guards to give the Rohan army some upward room. The Mauhur sculpt is incredible so I kind of want that too... We'll see!

A user on reddit suggested that I go for the Riders of Rohan rather than the Royal Guard, does this make sense based on upgrades?

I have played a Rohan battle company before, Riders of Rohan are definately a recommendation. My Rohan battle company was having a lot of difficulty against my Isengard opponent, until I purchased horses for my Lieutenant and Sergeants. This turned the tide for me.
In the end my battle company consisted of 11 models, only one of which was a Royal Guard and five of which used Rider of Rohan models.

Is this the new rule book everyone has been talking about? Or is something else coming down the pipeline as well?

Any new core rules won't arrive until summer, this is a variation on playing the game in terms of armies and scenarios: you have a small group of guys and gals earning experience through a series of games, keeping track of injuries, gold to purchase equipment and new people, and earning promotions along the way.
